A Tribute to Michael Jackson
June 26, 2009
The greatest pop icon of the 80’s will be missed. I’ve always planned on making some kind of video tribute about Michael Jackson before, but now, I think the time is right. When talking about him for more than 2 minutes, it’s impossible not to crack jokes, but I think we should remember him for all the entertainment he’s brought through his music and videos.

R.I.P MJ
Heh. I could really care less about the guy to be honest. Besides, didn’t he molest children or something?
Nice work James. I always remembered the Black and White video mainly because MTV played it all the time when I was like maybe five or so. He’s known as the King of Pop but some of his songs like Beat It had some pretty shredding guitar licks in it. Such a versatile musician. The media just focuses on the bad stuff about him but to the normal person he’s always going to be loved and cherished. I would be hard pressed to find a higher profile death in my lifetime, even at 23 years old.
HOW…..
in the HELL……………
…… DO YOU COME UP WITH THESE THINGS SO FAST?
That’s NUTS!
Like do you just HAPPEN to own every single Micheal Jackson video ever made in its entirety and then as soon as he dies it’s like:
“JAMES…. TO THE CINEMASSACRE-CAVE!”
*intense robotic sounds*
*LOGANDCAPTURE LOGANDCAPTURE LOGANDCAPTURE LOGANDCAPTURE*
*EEEEOOOOEEEEOOUUUUEEEOOOUUUU*
*DING-DING-DING-BLAM!*
aaaaaaaaaaaand
“THERE’S A VIDEO!”
I mean God dammit. If I wanted to make something like this, it would take at least a month of going to the video store and renting every possible Micheal Jackson thing I could find, and then doing some extra research on him at the library or internet or something JUST to make sure I get all the facts straight, and then a month and a half later….
THERE’S MY 4-MINUTE TRIBUTE!
Or is there like some sort of free reservoir of film clips that I don’t know about that you can just type in any name in history and automatically have access to as much audio/video material in the highest available quality that you may ever need?
Seriously. I’ve got to know. Just how the fuck do you do it James? I know you’re some sort of Magician or something who’s been making film projects since you were like 8. But still, even a magician would have a hard time doing this.
I’m sorry. This just does it. He died fucking YESTERDAY!!!!!
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ANY HUMAN BEING TO COME OUT WITH SOMETHING TODAY???????
NUTS.
SIMPLY NUTS!!!!!!!
Thriller was not the least bit scary compared to Night of the Living Dead, or most other movies about the undead. Besides, what’s not to love about zombies?
To quote Letterman: He sure was a great big freak.
Something tells me I could order you to make a video about the Irish Patato Famine, War of 1812, and Chinese Cultural Revolution, and then tomorrow at lunch I’ll log in to cinemassacre.com and yep…. sure enough…… a 4 minute tribute entitled “Chinese Potatoes of 1812″.
Great video! it was really touching to see MJ in such wonderfull music videos…
Is really sad what happened, i still can’t believe that he is dead… is just like a bad dream. . .
R.I.P Michael….
rip MJ you will be remembered
Aw this was very nice.
He had such incredible talent.
Great video and tribute James.
Thank you very much for this James. I have seen about 20 various tribute videos today on television and I prefer yours to the rest, RIP MJ.
Farrah Fawcett gets no love.
Thank you for this. You’ve got a lot of younger fans who don’t know how awesome he once was and now you’ve helped them see.
@ James:
Please make a tribute video for her, too.
I’d hazard a guess and say the younger folks who regularly visit Cinemassacre can’t really imagine what it is like for those of us who remember the 80s and early 90s for Michael Jackson to die. We grew up hearing hit after hit from him, and the release of Black & White was an ENORMOUS pop culture phenomenon.
I think you put it right, James, when you said it feels like the last of the 80s pop culture hanging on died with him. It is reminiscent of how John Lennon’s death must have felt like a huge blow to the last vestiges of the spirit of the 60s.
I have to go against the majority and say his best work was on Dangerous, Bad was great, and Thriller is a great album too but I agree with James on this it is overrated. If there is one thing of Michaels to check out its his Live in Bucharest dvd. Came out before the shit hit the fan, and its just a kick ass dvd. With all the great songs. RIP Michael.
Lisa it’s your birthday, happy birthday Lisa.
According to many people, Michael Jackson provided the voice for that Simpsons episode, but apparently he couldn’t sing the birthday song (which he reportedly wrote for that episode) from some financial or liability reason.
Mecha Jackson, the King of Robo-Pop
I’m still, kinda stunned. It’s just.. wrong…
Michael Jackson was/will always be like a “god” of music.
To the skin thing, there is still the rumor of an gen defect with white stains(?) and he just couldn’t cover it any longer. But who knows..
And you’re totally right, he was strange(genius and insanity) and he may did some wrong things but it doesn’t change anything at his great work.
So, great tribute James!
Rest in peace Michael

nicely done james. my first reaction to the news of his death was to crack a few cynical jokes and go on with my day, but they’ve been playing his music non stop on the radio today and it really made me remember how much i loved (and still love) his music growing up. i used to watch moonwalker constantly as a kid, that shit was epic. it’s a tragedy that a guy with world altering talent had so many personal problems. i didn’t realize till i saw this video how sad i truly am that he’s gone. just like you said, the end of an era.
I knew you do this tribute. Thank you, James.
Awesome
I’m still finding it REALLY, REALLY hard to believe he’s…gone. I used to be a huge fan of him, and my family would always make jokes based off media, but luckily I was smart enough to see through it and just enjoy what he does.
Thank you for this video, James. I read an article yesterday that said, “This is the moment when Generation X realizes they’re grown up.” Very true.
It’s sad to see so many people who don’t realize just how HUGE Michael was…he was the epitome of awesomeness back in the 80s. He could have ruled the world then.
RIP Michael
It’s weird to think about him being gone, with the conserts coming up and all… It’s surreal, but surely he will be missed.
This video paid very good respects to the man, I’m sure he would have loved it!
In Russia people keep going to the embassy of USA and bring flowers and portraits of MJ.
It was 02:00 in Moscow when i heard the news about his death. And it was the most terrible news since 2008 when one of my favourite radio DJ’s Gennady Bachinskiy died in a car crash.
R.I.P. MJ.
I’m not was a HUGE FAN NOWDAYS, but surely he does make part of my childhood. RIP MJ from Brazil
I’ve been stopping in over the past 24 hrs to see if you’d make a comment. very nice video tribute. i too like to think of the 80’s as an awesome time & he was larger than life at that time.
Totally agree with you James. Being a child from 81 I grew up when MJ was THE shit. It didn’t matter what music you liked, you had at least a few songs of him you liked and he managed to appeal to all sides. Hell I have been a metalhead since my youth but I still remember having a casette of him.
And everyone was doing their moonwalk although no-one really got close. He did it with certain flair and a smoothness like it was perfectly normal.
But his videos were awesome, he was one of the first to really make use of them and they were mini-movies. Just too bad that is now all replaced with clips of scantily clad ladies and guys who think they can rap and think they are players/pimps
I did lose touch with him after he got majorly wacky. But looking back I don’t really feel the need for the jokes that are out there. Sure I’ll laugh if they are good but the more I look back the more I am back in the 80ies and the more I admire what he did as an artist.
So like you I will not remember the person but the artist.
very nicely said james, thank you
wow. ed mcmahon, farrah fawcett and michael jackson. three huge stars, three deaths, one week. its so sad…they will all be missed.
[...] people everywhere to hear about the pop king passing away. I believe that James sums it best in his video about Michael Jackson. Sure he’s been ridiculed during the 90s, but it’s best to remember him the right way, [...]
Great job James… amazing how quickly you did this.
RIP Michael Jackson, one of the greatest musician/entertainers of all time if nothing else.
beautifully and tastefully done =]
you make such good stuff so quickly
You know, I keep listening to these songs I’ve already heard a million times each in my lifetime, and I watch and re-watch the videos, and I’m seeing and hearing things I never had before.
I mean, I’m actually sitting here analyzing Michael Jackson, and it only now starts to make sense.
Think about it: when he was the shit (well, he was always the shit but I mean that time in which he was REALLY King Shit Jesus Jr.), we could care less about his artistic intentions and hidden meanings that relate back to who he is as a person. We just loved what he did; we bobbed our heads, conversed with the radio by spouting things like “Yeah!” and “Mmm-hmm!” and otherwise generally rocked out because, simply put, he was a god of music and his product was irresistible.
After the controversy, the lawsuits, and the criminal case, it’s as if we couldn’t even listen to any of his songs (especially newly released tracks) without having some kind of socially awkward moment–with OURSELVES, no less–thus lessening the enjoyment.
But now, only after death, are things starting to appear to me. “Oh, he was singing about THIS,” or, “THAT’S what he meant by ‘________’,” or, “THAT’S why he put that scene in the ‘________’ video.” (Plus, I never put it together until now that Gerard Way of MCR bore a very strange resemblance to Michael during the “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” days….)
It’s almost as if his autobiography was being read to me (learning what I’ve learned from decades of news reports and that Jackson Five movie that came out not too long ago), and it happened when everything was being thrown at me in one huge multimedia package (i.e., round-the-clock news coverage, Geraldo Rivera, Larry King talking to celebrity friends, MTV posting his entire videography–short AND long versions–on their website).
I’ve realized that he just might have been a really, really great human being who was used, abused, and misunderstood by those around him. Do I believe he did the awful things he was accused or rumored of? No, I really don’t. Of course, the things he was used to and raised by in his life are seen as inappropriate by today’s society’s standards–which aren’t unfair either, for the most part. But let me get this out of the way: he didn’t molest kids.
The only way he could truly express his true self and his life–and I’m now convinced of this–was through messages left in his songs and videos. Of course, those could be (and often were) misinterpreted by the press. But that’s gonna happen with ANYTHING released as an artform in the 20th and 21st centuries, and beforehand, and definitely beyond.
I’m sure others, like myself, are just now coming to a healthy understanding of Michael Jackson, the artist and the person. It’s just sad that it took his passing for it to happen. But maybe this will bring him and his fans peace instead of just awkward closure.
To sum it up: his was a far greater story than I thought it would be.
I have to admit that I was born in 1986 and wouldn’t know much about Michael Jackson during the 80s but I certainly remember a few things of his from the 90s and Black and White was certainly the one song of his I remember from my childhood. I have to say, he was really something. Eccentric? Yes, he was, but his music was great nonetheless.
Well, after his death, I ended up buying two of his songs on iTunes (Smooth Criminal and Leave Me Alone) and ended up singing Beat It on both Karaoke Revolution Volume 3 and Guitar Hero: World Tour.
RIP, Michael Jackson. Looks like you’re finally going to be left alone, like what you were singing about in Leave Me Alone.
I agree with the comments, how can you come out with such a great video in a few hours.
Michal Jackson was almost inmortal when he was at his peak, you could easily believe he was never going to fall into the shit he went through.
Michael Jackson’s death came to me mostly as a surprise knowing that he had many concerts planned. Although I cannot say I am fond of his works, there is no denying the the magnitude of his impact about all things.
Here’s to the King of Pop.
Michael Shall Live on forever in my heart.
I love you Michael! Rest in Peace.
People, please let him be remembered for the great things he has done.
-Cece
James, thanks for throwing something together so quickly. You know, I occasionally bust out the MJ at get-togethers. One thing about it is that it’s just great to listen to. It doesn’t matter if he had plethora of allegations, and to be honest, I’m not really a diehard fan. He’s the king of pop and he should be remembered as such.
Btw, we need more Board James!
I agree with James too. It’s as if the 80’s has finally come to a close. How sad that just a day after the release of Transformers 2, we hear of Michael Jackson’s passing. Just as one part of our childhood is revived, another piece dies. I will say though that it is great hearing his songs on the radio again.
Truely this was the King of Pop(especially the Pepsi kind).
Thx James! Love your work. I think Michael loved children more than a normal level but i don’t think it was in a sexually way!!!
R.I.P Michael Jackson always remembered!
I was wondering how long it would take for you to make a video for him.
It’s strange. I saw your moonwalker AVGN video for the first time, then played the game itself, then managed to get through beat it on expert mode on GH:WT (bass) and then I find myself following his condition with some friends on IRC all within a week of each other.
Still a sad time. I can’t get over how many major celebrities just died in such a short time.
Michael Jackson’s father treated him like fucking shit. Michael didn’t grow up with a real childhood. All he did was to make music because his father forced him to. Therefore, he treated kids nicely because his own father didn’t treat him.
Michael was also very childish, and that’s completely normal. I have an uncle who’s very childish.
Besides, if a kid has been raped/molested, they have a special look in their face. Kids who walked out of Neverland didn’t have any looks, they were happy just as any other kid.
Also, kids cannot tell lies. So if they really did get raped, they would’ve said it.
Michael Jackson was not a pedophile. He was just a man with a ruined childhood and an amazing voice.
R.I.P., Michael.. RIP from Norway.
Now if you’d excuse me, I’m returning to the Mihcael Jackson-marathon on MTV.
Fuck, typo at the end.
MICHAEL Jackson.
Love him or hate him, he’ll always be an icon…
R.I.P. Michael
..Well, I Never Realy cared for the guy all that much ..He Was always very strange once he reached his “Mid life crisis” ..And the way he looked laways kind of freaked me out ..But he was a pop legend ..and now that he’s gone it makes sence for a tribute.
I think this is the best M.J. retrospective I have seen on him since he past away. Nice work James. R.I.P. Micheal.
James you did awsome on this video and jokes.
R.I.P Michael Jackson.
Forever always the king of pop
James, after watching the vid, and reading the comments, I created an account just to respond to this. I was born in 84, so I’m too young to remember the 80’s that well, or any of the big pop culture times of it. However, I can feel how well done, and respectful this tribute is.
To me, whatever he did, he’ll be a King of music. I plan to as my own tribute to him, to listen to his music. I’ve been a fan of Thriller for awhile..surprise surprise, and beat It. Last night i heard Smooth Criminal, and loved it.
King of Pop, Michael, RIP man. You left a lasting legacy in music, and surely creativity.
Cool video, he sure will be missed all over the world.
I bet even aliens would like him.
James, what about a movie review of his movie Moonwalker ?
Could be part 2 of the tribute. Come on, a movie where you have MJ as the hero, and JOE PESCI as the villain should win an Oscar.
Very nice of you to do James. Rest in Peace MJ.
excelent work James
R.I.P.
King Of Pop
Walker of Moons
you will be missed
He was one of my idols, and it almost feels as though the 80’s will die with him. Great Video
Great work on the tribute James. MJ will be missed.
this is awesome that u did that i am also doing 1 but im having trouble find clips of MJ

Nice tribute James… I would’ve thought that this was something that you had in post-production from the intro, but dubbing this with some true sense of the matter, it was pretty damn cool. Even with a couple of “Wacko Jacko” jokes, it was in good taste and a helluva lot better than the crap tributes I’ve been seeing on TV all day long…
Nice improv tribute to Michael Jackson and may he’s art live throughout the ages.
Great tribute to Michael Jackson. May he rest in peace. Unfortunately, he had to do a comeback before he died. It was so unexpected.
@ angryvideocritic
There’s a good website at http://new.music.yahoo.com/ .
In there, I even found Thriller from Michael Jackson in there, although it’s a more modern version of it.

Nice tribute. I’m a big MJ fan, but I’ve never seen anything like this in my life, or even heard or read about anything like all the coverage he’s getting… I mean, it’s on EVERYTHING. He was God in the 80’s, but even in the 90’s, he had the best selling albums then too. Like the guiness book of world records said, he is the MOST FAMOUS PERSON TO EVER LIVE… like… ever. I’d be pretty weird too… people always try and humanize him, and say he does things that are weird… well, weird to them, because in big scheme of things, no one will care when they pass, but the entire world has mourned the loss of this one man, who not only did so much in the music, dance, and film world, but he also donated more money to charity than anyone else in history, and brought races together, while inspiring hundreds of millions… RIP Michael Jackson.
Great Job James. I went on your website yesterday to see if you had anything to say about him, and did not see anything. Guess you were putting together this video.
Your also right on the Larger than Life aspect that he brought to our generation. A true legend is gone.
All those who dislike Michael for those allegations should take the time to separate the art from the artist. His music and moves were inspirational and brought together millions around the world, truly no boundaries. You may dislike the artist, but please at least respect him for his art.
I’ve always loved what you do. Everything you create brings back great memories and a smile to my face. But only after seeing this did I finally register and leave a comment. This was an awesome vid and very touching. Since you and I are the same age I have very similar feelings on the life of this man. Keep up the great work and RIP Mike.

Even though I’m only 14, I still was a huge fan of Michael Jackson. When I heard of his death I was in denial for the whole day, trying to find ways to prove to myself he wasn’t dead. But he’s gone now, and the 80s really have seem to have passed on now.
RIP Michael Jackson, I’ll always remember you.
I agree, that was really fast! You put that together like the A-Team welding together a fully functional tank from scrap metal in a 20 second montage.
Speaking of, if Mr. T ever dies (that’s right, I said IF), will you do a tribute for him too?
Hello from Greece.
First post for me too, though I’ve been a fan of James’ work for over a year.
Remember when famous actors like Gregory Peck or Charlton Heston died and your parents would go on about how important they were for their generation (and several generations after that) with a nostalgic look in their eyes? I was always wondering how I would feel when one of my childhood icons would die. I thought I would feel kinda old, maybe. I haven’t had the time to process it yet, I guess I’m still in denial, not about MJs passing, but about what this passing signifies, the passage of time and the fact that you can take nothing for granted.
Anyways, thanks for the memories, MJ, and thanks for bringing these memories to life, James.

Thank rolf for making a tribut to the king of pop
he will be greatly missed
whene the news happened the 2end think i did [after cring]was to snd a tribut request and thanks it is truly great
RIP Michael jackson
I’m recently doing a video about ‘Life’ as my project. In my preparation MJ was a minor subject of the project about me explaining,… In youth people have different backgrounds but nomather what part of the world you live on in general we have part the same culture/background. In this case the MJ-culture, if you liked him or not he did affect us. Remember the moonwalks we tried, the pinball machines, the video-games, movies, the after-shower-curl we tried to make with shampoo, etc… I am not a hardcore fan of MJ, but for me personally it’s hard to accept just because he was a big part of my childhood, like “The Turtles”, “Thundercats”, “NES”,… But those never die… The fact that MJ did, is someone taking siccors and cutting a piece out of my memory. MJ rest in peace, you had a great impact on the world.
I definitely was a big fan of his when I was growing up. Through most of elementary and middle school, I had all his albums on cassette except HIStory which was the first CD I ever bought. Although now I am not as much of a fan as I was back then its hard to know and hard to accept the fact he is gone. The only album of his that I truly did not like was Invincible but I know if he had lived he could have pumped out at least one more great album. I agree with your statement. It feels like the 80s have completely died off now.
May he rest in peace.
R.I.P
Thanks for this Tribute James, we’re looking forward for a longes and more detailed tribute.
MJ was the greatst pop artist so far
P.s Keep up the good work!
R.I.P
i was born in 1971 and i have always listend to rap music since 1979, i am not really a m.j. fan but i spent many hours watching mtv in the early 80’s i mean what else was there to do?? play atari ride my bike and mtv! now dont get me wrong i love everything 80’s retro and even though i am not a fan of m.j. i mean come on how could you not recognize m.j. him and madonna i would say were the 2 biggest stars in the 80’s as far as music goes. i think pop music still lives even though the king of pop died we still have madonna.
i did enjoy revisiting all of m.j’s music in the last day and all the tributes to him are great he will be greatly missed by many people.
my atari still works and m.j.’s music still plays all is not lost!!!
and m.j. did not invent the moonwalk as most people seem to believe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VbPd2iu4bg
but this guy invented it and is where m.j. got the moonwalk from

nice tribute James I wasn’t a big fan of Micheal Jackson but I liked some of his songs and that monnwalker dance move was awesome he will be missed RIP Micheal Jackson
sorry meant to say moonwalker damn typos
I liked the comment James mentioned about the 80s dying with MJ. He really was the Icon of that era.
Anyone remember that song after his Pepsi Commercial?
I pledge all allegiance to the flag.
Michael Jackson is a fag.
Pepsi cola burned him up.
Now he’s drinking 7-up !
LOL
R.I.P. Michael

It looks like I was right when I thought you’d do something spectacular as a tribute for Michael Jackson, man, you’re good o_o
I didn’t do much to tribute him, I kept it quite simple, however, It seems to reflect the same sentiment, and that was to remember him as he was before all this crazy shit started happening to him.
Yeah, I can understand that it’s nearly impossible not to crack jokes, I think you kept it tasteful, nicely done.

I don’t think there will be another MJ or Elvis because of this very reason

AWESOME!!!
U will bee remember, Micheal Jackson
Michael Jackson had a disease that only black people could get, it’s where their skin very slowly changes from black to white in little spots, so he just bleached his skin white so he could skip all that shit.
I was born in 1989, but since I’ve heard and watched MJ for the first time, many years ago, I’ve been a huge fan. From his early days in the Jackson 5 to Invincible.
I believe his death will help younger people, or just those who didn’t know him, to discover the vast world of Michael Jackson’s legacy, his true Neverland.
I am also glad to see that I am not alone (as would say MJ) in grief. Contrary to my beliefs, he was not immortal, but oddly enough, he still is.
♪Beat It, Beat It, No One Wants to be Defeated♪…
May you finally be at peace, Michael.
he inspired many to inspire us
may michael rest in peace
PS. great tribute james
Good riddance, fuck Michael and his man-boy loving.
When i first heard that he died my reaction was “what ? he is dead ? “
R.I.P. Captain EO
To Dumasty and all the other disrespectful attention seekers, you don’t remember or care about Thriller. Whatever. I understand. Just shut the fuck up, get the fuck out, and never come back.
I was born in 1986 so i can’t say much about the ‘Thriller’ period, but in the early 90’s the ‘Black And White’ video was just so cool. I remember watching it all over again on MTV and then i saw ‘Leave Me Alone’ also a fantastic video. The 80’s and early 90’s were so cool!
I don’t believe much about the child abuse story, the thing is if your a man and like children the word pedophile is never far away. I work in a day care center and people still give me a weird look.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson
I remember as a 10 year old in the 80’s it was kinda nerdy to like MJ, but who didnt secretly a little? I really feel like a HUGE chunk of my childhood died that day, and that more then anything I think is what most of us around 30 or older like myself are feeling.
I think the Thriller video is funny. Michael turns into a zombie, which is scary; and then… he starts dancing!!
You did a really good job on this. The more I hear about this man the more I’m thinking he was not only wierd but sad and mis-guided
I was born in 1984, but the Thriller music video was the one that captured my attention in the early 90s. It was and still is awesome. The special effects are just amazing, I’m still in awe every time I see the video. Later in the late 90s, I discovered Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix followed by HIStory. I became a big fan through high school, and was ridiculed for it. I’m as big a fan today, but I still can’t help but move to the beat every time I hear Billie Jean.
…meant to say, “I’m not as big a fan today…”, in that last sentence.
Great tribute.
I was born in 1972 and the eighties shaped me like no other period since. As James mentions, being young and carefree greatly changes how you percieve things, and looking back, the politics of that age were a huge dark blemish and some of the hairdos we could have been without, but I still view the eighties as pretty much the coolest period in my life.
Most of my favorite movies are from that period and I distinctly remember after watching the Thriller video,(and remember please, this was still a time when most music videos consisted of a band being filmed on stage – and little else) some of the older guys mentioning “zombies” – something I’ve never heard about before and being told that if I liked that, I should check out Night of the Living Dead. Which I did, and Romero is now one of my house gods
.
Another thing MJ’s music turned me on to is heavy metal. Seeing and hearing Jennifer Batten with MJ just blew my tiny little mind – as did the Black & White video.
In today’s “modern” society where men are hesitant to look for a job in day care and pre-school, the grounds and the outcome of MJ’s recent legal proceedings can be speculated upon endlessly – so I wont.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson
I like to think of the zombie’s monologue in thriller as the first rap ever. Also, you said “female women” in the video, thats redundant.
James i respect u as a moviemaker and geez ur AVGN me me laugh like a manic and love u Bullshit videos and i love ur movie reviews…but honestly im dissapointed here the video was ok good footage in a short amount of time but i feel this is not a tribute just a opinion u have about him ,make jokes is ok but u almost dont show u love for MJ …like i say before this dont sound a tribute at all imho
I may not be the biggest fan of Michael Jackson, but I know he’s one of the best things to happen to music in history. R.I.P. M.J. Rest In Paradise.
I do agree they are scary looking in thriller but that’s what makes the video stand out I mean it’s a music video but the make-up and effects are amazing especially for the 80s
What a remarkable man. Michael Jackson was not a pervert, just eccentric. If you want to know why he did that weird stuff, he was on the Autistic spectrum, like me. Often those with Autism have “their own world”, and Michael was no exception. His world happened to be copyrighted by Disney, a magical place where people never grow up. His talent was awesome. Everyone that worked with him says he was very professional. His music sounds just as good today as it did years ago and it will sound just as good years into the future.
Too bad he can’t rest in peace, with all the shit they’re doing to his body.
Another famous person died, but her death was eclipsed by that of Michael Jackson. Farrah Fawcett’s battle with cancer has ended. While maybe more expected than MJ’s, that’s no reason not to cover her death on the News.
Good luck to all that were close to Michael and Farrah, family, friends, and co-workers alike. You have made an impact on so many lives and will be missed.
Michael Jackson (1958-2009)
Farrah Fawcett (1947-2009)
I was never a huge fan, but I would be wrong to ignore all his contributions, and his videos were pretty good, the tunes very catchy. I may take issue with some of the things he did in his personal life, but his contributions as musician cannot be denied.
It’s funny… just a few weeks ago we were discussing among friends if/when he would ever release another album, would it still sell. We concluded it probably would.
To say I vastly under-estimated his fan base is an understatement.
Thanks for the consistently good work, James.
RIP Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcet, and Michael Jackson.
James, you are such pure talent. You whipped up this video in less than two freaggin days??
Anyways, I’m sure you’ll review TF2, and as ever, await for it in agony!
Oh, and I wanted to tell you how absolutely delighted I was to see you in the Britany Spoof. I dare say I was in rapture!
Thanks for a tribute showing Michael Jackson as I remember him from the 80s. In those days he was the coolest of them all. He became a media-freak later. People growing up in the 90s have no idea of how great he really was back then.

That video was pure class James, thanks.
Never commented on your site before James but have been a longtime fan of yours, but this post here made me want to comment.
This was the absolute best thing you could have done, giving tribute to the king of pop Michael Jackson.
Of course now a days he’s been the subject of ridicule as you have previously stated but no one can deny the mans talent, he will be surely missed and I was very pleased to see you giving a tribute to him instead of not commenting and continuing your other projects. Very awesome of you dude. Well, ’till then, can’t wait till the next AVGN vid.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson
The ignorance even amongst his fans in this thread astounds me.
Michael Jackson had vitiligo (a disease which gradually strips your skin of pigmentation) and lupus, which is potentially fatal. Jackson’s lupus was in remission, but because of his extreme sensitivity to sunlight thanks to the combination of the conditions, he had to wear the veils and other “weird” crap so it wouldn’t reawaken.
As for the child molestation charges, just read about the court proceedings or the quality of witnesses. Not that wikipedia is by any means a be-all/end-all, but a quick glance through it shows that we’re not dealing with a pedophile, but a tragic figure who was struck down at the height of his career by petty greed, and parents seemingly devoid of a moral compass, willing to use their children as tools to financial gain.

10 minutes of research can completely change your opinion about this man’s life. Even his facial reconstructive surgery all started because he broke his nose during a complex dance routine and he medically needed surgery.
To have come from such an abusive childhood to emerge as perhaps the greatest musical genius of the past 30 years despite suffering from debilitating diseases and unfounded allegations of sexual misconduct…Michael Jackson has my total respect. His untimely passing is just the final chapter in the tragic past two decades for him.
That said, I appreciated James’ tribute. I understand the desire to “not go there” when it came to the 90s drama. But to claim “everyone knows what happened after that” is obviously not true. Not wanting to taint a tribute is admirable, but tacitly accepting things that are downright false about a guy is less than ideal.
Hey James, can you do one for Billy Mays now?
RIP Billy Mays
I second that notion.
They were both 50. Peculiar timing.
not many people seem to know this, but michael jackson did not dye his skin because he was weird, but because he had a certain type of skin cancer that left white patches on his skin, and his doctor gave him the option of just changing his whole skin white at once instead of walking around with weird patches, so he did like anybody else probably would. Just thought I’d say that.
man this has been a tough month ed mcmahon, michael jackson, farrah fawcett, and today billy mays from tv’s pitchmen i know he is no super rockstar but damn he was only 50 too but it seem he got a knock on the head when his flight was landing
I saw this on a live bbc 1 feed on the net when it broke. He made great music, although i wasn’t his biggest fan and the children subject is never going to go away even after he died, right or wrong. And dont forget he has three children of his own, which is very much a sticking point. this music is amazing for the decades he covered and like this music, it will always be there. Its all pretty sudden, not like he he died on stage, which i thing he would have wanted if he wanted to die anywhere, but he didn’t and shocked everywhere
Hey James. That was a really nice video. I also agree that you should do a tribute to Billy Mays.
Thanks,
-Nameless
i agree everything u say james ^^
James, nice tribute to the “King of Pop.”
I was a fan of MJ for a while, starting around the time of “Bad.” My fandom, however, came to the end shortly after the “Remember the Time” video. It wasn’t because of anything in that video, it was seeing the Pop-Up Video for MJ’s duet with Paul McCartney on “Say, Say, Say” that soured me. Seeing MJ try to woo his sister LaToya and finding out that Paul gave MJ some advice about buying up song rights for royalties, which MJ later put to use by outbidding Paul for the Beatles’ library rights.
I never looked at him the same afterwards.
I hope that now that MJ’s kids don’t have as much of a media circus to worry about and can have time to properly grieve for their father and move on with their lives.
Believe it or not, I’m a huge MJ fan and I’m only 16. Proof that young people can appreciate Michael! It still seems to me that Mike’s in some sort of coma and will wake up any minute now, even though I know that isn’t true. RIP Michael Joseph Jackson!
was a bubblegum fan in the 70’s…first time I saw “the robot”: the Jackson 5. First time I saw the moonwalk: michael jackson. made a POINT to go to an inlaw’s home who had cable (i.e.:MTV) to see: “Bad”, “Thriller”…and “We Are the World” after the oscars…”black or white” to my new digital eyes was MAGIC! and saw “captain e-o” @ disneyland in 3-d, was blown away!NEVER believed he molested the kids…but had an unhealthy peter pan complex about childhood. a very sensitive man, a very public persona, and sad at his passing. thank you james. when m.j. died, i wondered: what is avgn going to do? (honestly i did) may michael find peace and acceptance in whatever the afterlife offers him.I was NEVER an elvis fan (before my time) but i WAS a michael fan. he will be missed.
That was a nice Back to the Future moment at the end!
… Your kids are gonna love it.
and hey, wrong video. Awesome!
Nicely said James. Nicely said.
idk, but it seems like the world is a different place then when i was a child, i will miss Michael, he may have been a strange person, but he was something not every generation gets to see, and he will be missed.
oh, and he what was up with the video for “bad”, if u don’t know what im talking about look up the full length video, it’s weird “YOU AIN”T NOTHIN”@ Wesley Snipes
apparntly MJ was innocent
breaking news

JAMES & fans,
Here’s a capsule of the compelling aspect of Jackson’s work you’ll appreciate.
Not the finest video quality, but adept editing and the sheer brilliant content of the clips make it a mighty watch.

hey here you can see michael jacksons arcade games that are up for auction or were up for auction and has price listings for each item

Wow great vid and like one of the earlier people who left a comment, I too joined up with Cinemassacre to leave this comment. A very good wealth of vids but it might have been a minute or so longer if James were to bring about the minor things (like backup for Rockwell in “Somebody’s watchin’ me.”
In the end, I’m just glad this video didn’t resort to blatant hero worship or a straight out character assassination.
We miss you Michael, R.I.P.
Nice tribute James. I’m a newer fan of yours and this is my first post. MJ’s life is truly a tragedy. That is unless he was a child molester. I that case I hope there’s a hell. Regardless it was pretty much proven that his supervision of children was at least inappropriate.
Anyway part of MJ isn’t the man but the legend he was in the music world. I think this is an appropriate tribute to the MJ we saw on TV. I don’t think we’ll ever know or understand the real Michael Jackson.
James,
This is a awsome tribute to MJ – you have yet again managed to capture my thoughts exactly!
RIP MJ
I have just learned the bad (good) news …
At the end of the video, you see a large statue of Michael Jackson being unveiled.
I was in the Netherlands (Holland) driving through the city of Eindhoven when out of nowhere we saw this huge statue next to a McDonalds. When we realized what it was we were perplexed – why is there a huge statue of michael jackson in a small city in the country of Holland next to a Mcdonalds?
Here’s a link.

James, that was an amazing video. I gotta say that this short tribute by far surpasses any of these tributes that are airing on tv.
I agree with you 100% with the points you made. I too found it interesting to see Michael so comfortable with hitting on women. I think, sexually, MJ was all over the place. I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was into men, women, children, plants or animals.
And I also didn’t get the big fuss over Thriller. Sure, it was a fun video and original for its time, but Michael has made far better songs and videos. IMHO, Thriller is ridiculously overhyped.
One thing that would’ve been cool to mention is that Michael was able to keep his style of music relevant for 2 to 3 different generations. His music as a child pulled
It’s a shame that the way things are nowadays, most kids have no idea who the guy is and what the fuss is about… even our generation had a good idea of who Elvis Presley is, and how much of an impact he made.
Nice tribute, RIP king of pop
I thought it took some time since capturing a few tapes and comment is a straightforward process.
I was upset when he died… because I knew that TV, internet and the radio were gonna be filled with MJ for at least a month.
Wow NPM, that’s cold.
A big hello from Germany:
Great video, James! I think you´re right when you say we sholud remember Michael Jackson not as the person we knew by the medias but as the king of pop in the 80s and the early 90s.
Thriller, Bad and Dangerous are his best albums but History is also good and Invincible is better than the critics say (YOU ROCK MY WORLD is the best track from his last album).
His videos are awesome, especially Thriller, Black Or White & Scream. But I never saw one of his shows because I was born in 1983 (And this is the year he became a superstar). But maybe I´ll buy one of his concert-DVDs one day, perhaps Live In Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour.
Can you make a review of his movie MOONWALKER? Your video about the Sega Genesis Game is also great! And please put this video tribute in your filmography because it´s not there.
R.I.P. Michael – You´re the best pop artist of all time!
Ben From Germany
James. Thank you so much for making a tribute video about Michael Jackson!
I have been a MJ fan ever since my mother first played the Thriller album for me when I was a baby. Ever since then when ever something involved MJ (music videos, TV appearances etc.) I was there to catch it.
Michael Jackson was more of a wonderful human being than a lot of people realize. Many people focus on the controversies around him instead of what type of person he was and what he gave to the world. He not only gave us wonderful music but also gave to charities, helped sick people, tried to help the planet and environment, I could go almost go on forever.
It’s a shame most people don’t realize that he was also kind person with a heart made of gold, not just a talented singer. I was always on his side during his trial and when people ridiculed him. Sure he wasn’t like other people but that is what was special about him. He was talented and kind on a level that no other person has reached.
I’m not just saying this because I am one of his fans. I’m saying this because I knew what type of person he was like. He not only had tremendous talent but a beautiful spirit that is like none other!
He may have had problems in his life, but everyone has life problems in some form. Personally I think he deserved better than that. But at least he is at peace right now. I think he’s singing with angels!
RIP Michael Jackson! We love you!
My Dad ended up dieing on the same day as Michael Jackson. My mom and I ended up joking a little that they were bound to end up annoying each other outside the gates. No matter which direction they end up going. And I remember commenting as soon as I heard about Michael Jackson that all people will end up saying about my Dad’s grave marker should they ever come across it is “Interesting same day as Michael Jackson.”
Thank you for making this Tasteful its way too easy to use his newer videos to make something painful.
