Thanks for doing one of my requests James, I greatly appreciate it :)

  2. Gary October 26, 2009 @ 3:05 am

You fuckin ROCK James! Keep’em coming!

  3. Nards of DOOM October 26, 2009 @ 3:07 am

Used to be REALLY scared of Chucky.

    Not so much anymore.

  4. 80sMade October 26, 2009 @ 3:09 am

I loved the first few Child’s Play movies but then they made them more into a comedy/horror films and to me that kill off the scaryness of Chucky…I did like Bride of Chucky but none of the newer movies can compare to Child’s play 1 & 2, those are some classic fuck with your head type flicks as well as scary.

  5. tomc1980 October 26, 2009 @ 3:10 am

Lol my brother had a my buddy doll when he was little and this movie fucked him up. He was afraid that his my buddy would come to life to. Didnt help i told him it would to. Great review James keep up the good work.

  6. Spazz Master October 26, 2009 @ 3:11 am

“Don’t fuck with the Chuck”…the single most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. :’)

  7. retrograde October 26, 2009 @ 3:12 am

Holy crap, James. How many different “It’s cinemassacre’s monster madness!!!” VO’s did you make?! lol

  8. DerManiac October 26, 2009 @ 3:19 am

Still can’t watch em here in europe :-( (
    Damn you, blip.tv!!

  9. Blood Pump October 26, 2009 @ 3:20 am

    Chucky indeed is the ‘man’.

I’m actually glad you decided to review this instead of Predator (1987), because its at least moving the MM ahead (Though it could be argued that Predator is more of a ‘Monster’ then Chucky, and as such would be a bit more appropriate, but I personally ain’t making that argument). I do like ‘Predator’ more then ‘Childs Play’, but Chucky is definitely more wittier, and more mainstream I think so good choice.

Anyways, Chucky is awesome, but he doesn’t quite > Pinhead in my opinion.

  10. Interfector October 26, 2009 @ 3:31 am

Great review James, keep up the good work.
Also, do you own the movie you are rev?

  11. ordel October 26, 2009 @ 3:52 am

Dude, I dont know if you have thought of doing this already, but ive been watching your stuff for a long time and I would be greatly interested in a Cinemassacre Podcast!!!! THAT. WOULD. RULE.

  12. JS Partisan October 26, 2009 @ 3:59 am

God, I fucking hate Chucky. This is why I loved Cassie Hack kicking that fucking demented doll’s ass so much. He’s just fucking annoying. While the first film is a classic for what it is. I eagerly await the remake in a year or two. So I can be annoyed by this fucking conceit yet again. Fuck you, Chucky. FUCK YOU VERY MUCH!

Here’s to something trippy from 1988 showing up tomorrow.

  13. JS Partisan October 26, 2009 @ 4:00 am

1989 but here’s me adding an edit anyway!

  14. Darthgaiden October 26, 2009 @ 4:08 am

This is another movie I’ve never bothered to watch. Not sure why. For some reason the idea of a doll coming to life and going on a killing spree just never really got my attention. That’s funny too because when I was very young there was a show on TV called Trilogy of Terror, and one of the segments was about a little voodoo doll that came alive and started trying to kill some chick in some house somewhere, and that one scared me so bad that the shit shot out of my ass like a torpedo.

Anyway, now that I’ve seen James’s review I HAVE to give it a look.

Once again, great review James, keep ‘em coming! =)

  15. darcman0 October 26, 2009 @ 4:35 am

had a feeling you’d be giving this movie a review. should of mentioned how well brad dourif did the voice, he’s got a knack for maniacal characters.

  16. Cyril ViXP October 26, 2009 @ 4:38 am

Interesting movie. I always remember Chucky’s phrase “Fuck you very much” :-)

You know when I first saw this movie as a child I wasn’t very scared of it. The thing that scared the shit out of me was my older sisters vintage Mattel See ‘N Say doll that she just loved. It completely haunted my dreams for months. If you don’t know what that doll is then you need to know that the “Chucky” doll was based apon three initial doll type collections. One was the “My Buddy” dolls (chucky’s physically image) ofcourse and the other two were the “See ‘N Say” dolls (which would move its eyes and mouth movie when speaking after pulling the cord, ofcourse) and its successor the “Chatty Cathy” dolls (which moved its eyes and blinked while speaking). All were very creepy.

  19. quilla October 26, 2009 @ 4:52 am

Another dutch fan here who can’t see the video’s :(
It’s been this way sindse the Texas Chainsaw massacre 2 vid..

  20. Psykhophear October 26, 2009 @ 5:21 am

I knew this movie was coming. I used to be sooo scared of Chucky a long time ago and he haunted me for many many years. The first time I watched this movie was also my last time.

  21. ingloriousak47 October 26, 2009 @ 5:23 am

thanks J.R., really like childs play 1 its the scariest of them all, “My Andy, how youve grown” :D

  22. wimmywoo October 26, 2009 @ 5:33 am

OOOOOOOOOOhhhhhhh i rate PREDATOR way higher than Childs Play, but i guess Predator is more of an action flick.

Wow imagine if James reviewed Predator,

Just imagine it. Please help me imagine.

Aside from that blatant wishing, nice work.
I loved Chucky when i was a kid, but now i find his lasting appeal not so good. In comparison to a leatherface or Freddy, he just doesnt cut it.

    Sorry Chuck,

But imagine if James reviewed PREDATOR,

    wow my pants would explode.

  23. Dicknijmegen October 26, 2009 @ 5:39 am

Just logged in to let you know I also haven’t been able to see any video’s since TCM2. all white windows.
I’m also from Holland. Hope this’ll be fixed

  24. DerManiac October 26, 2009 @ 5:39 am

quilla, this is due to blip.tv (where the videos are hosted) having some problems with their ISP.
They said (here http://theblog.blip.tv/post/222338660/network-outage) the problem would be resolved, but it’s not! And there hasn’t been any statement from them since that…

I can’t watch any Cinemassacre or TGWTG movies at the moment.. this is really annoying.

  25. DerManiac October 26, 2009 @ 5:40 am

Sorry, for double post. I just wanted to add that it’s not just Netherlands. I’m from Austria, so it seems like a europe-wide thing.

  26. wimmywoo October 26, 2009 @ 5:44 am

Yeah i had that same problem last week, and im all the way down in australia!

  27. mad4ra October 26, 2009 @ 5:50 am

Hi, im from austria too with the same problem, but you can still watch it on youtube thanks to James!
    http://www.youtube.com/user/cinemassacre?blend=6&ob=4

But i hope they will fix that soon..

  28. GHPictures October 26, 2009 @ 6:00 am

I used te be scared of chucky until I watched thid video,i realised that its actualy kind of funny but still i neve trust the ending because you scared the shit outta me with the gremlins video ending great job though!

  29. metalcommand October 26, 2009 @ 6:05 am

No problem watching all of the vids here in the Netherlands =S…

  30. Glitchet October 26, 2009 @ 6:24 am

I’ve been waiting for this review for some time. Lol I watched this movie on Youtube and it’s the only horror movie I’ve watched that you reviewed. I know I’m pathetic gotta watch Nightmare and more Chucky movies.

My friend is still terrified of Chucky but I kinda like him as a slasher antagonist. The ending of the first Child’s Play was pretty terrifying but I’m not going to give it away.

  31. monsha October 26, 2009 @ 6:25 am

I’m from Austria and can watch the videos without any problems.. (by the way, many austrian fans of James here I see :) )

  32. dicnar October 26, 2009 @ 7:15 am

I was always scared shitless of this fucking doll and that’s why I really don’t like the way they went with the sequels. Too much comedy, to much bizzare characters etc.

  33. Bman54 October 26, 2009 @ 7:32 am

    I was hoping he’d do Child’s Play. Chucky’s awesome!

  34. horrorfanboy October 26, 2009 @ 7:33 am

Thank you so much. This was another review I was waiting for. I love the Child’s Play films except for Seed of Chucky. Chucky is one of my favorite slasher villains.

    Don’t f*#! with the Chuck!

  35. Descant October 26, 2009 @ 7:37 am

You should have put “Child’s play” from Carcass in this one!

  36. Mattematask October 26, 2009 @ 7:57 am

I have seen all Chucky movies and they’re really good, but the last 2 was only about gore and violence, they wasn’t scary as the 3 first.

  37. Laika October 26, 2009 @ 8:07 am

This is one of the franchises that scared me most as a child. I was probably too young to be watching this movie the first time I saw it, and it had lingering effects. My little brother got a My Buddy doll when he was about 5. It sort of resembled him at the time–blond hair, blue eyes–and I remember teasing him about it coming alive and replacing him a lot. He ended up getting so worked up about the doll that he beheaded it and threw it away.

  38. MorePAIN October 26, 2009 @ 8:40 am

Childs play is awesome. That doll has quite the mouth on him lol.

  39. Karate Kid Icarus October 26, 2009 @ 9:19 am

    Good review.

    Cheers

  40. The Angry Movie Dork October 26, 2009 @ 9:21 am

I wonder why in horror franchises, they switch companies like crazy. Child’s play was made by MGM, and all the sequels were made by Universal, and don’t get me started on the Halloween series. 1,4, and 5 were made by some independent studio, 2 and 3 were made by Universal and 6 to now by Dimension, WFT>?!!

  41. dennis October 26, 2009 @ 9:33 am

I am also from The Netherlands, and i cant wait the videos at home (using UPC internet) but blip.tv does work at the office I work (i think we use KPN there)

I dont understand it at all but it totally sucks… blip is also not fast is responding.. i wish someone could give them a call…

on another note.. i love the marathon!

  42. DerManiac October 26, 2009 @ 9:44 am

Dennis: Great, I’m using UPC too..

  43. Extrema October 26, 2009 @ 10:27 am

Another UPC user here.. but like mad4ra said, let’s stick to the youtube uploads for now!

  44. Slayer of 100 October 26, 2009 @ 10:35 am

That movie scare the shit out of me, that one and Critters, holy shit! gave me nightmares for 2 years!

  45. Sofe October 26, 2009 @ 10:50 am

i agree with wimmywoo.Predator would be awesome, but it isnt horror movie.More like scifi action movie.I have only seen child’s play 3 and it was bad movie.First two can be better,i will check them out when i have chance to it

  46. james_edge October 26, 2009 @ 10:54 am

I always found the child’s play films very creepy, though I didn’t get to see them until a few years ago as they were banned in the united kingdom for a while

A pair of 10 year olds went out and chucked a 8 year old on a train track to try and recreate a scene from child’s play 3 (it was a very high profile case at the time) and this lead to the films being highly censored

  47. PoGo October 26, 2009 @ 10:59 am

Thanks dude, this is one of my favorite movies, used to scare the hell outta me as a kid, and it is still kinda greepy to this day… You are the man James keep em coming…

    PoGo…

  48. Enraged Elliott October 26, 2009 @ 11:17 am

“Hi, I’m mommie, want a spanking?”
Wow that was a good line, sincerely.

The ending had a great line too, but I too won’t give it away.

  49. Verdska October 26, 2009 @ 11:18 am

I just cant imagine the epicness of the “Its cinemassacre’s monster madness” intro in the final chapter the 31st of october.
    Good work james as always!
    Regards from Mexico

  50. Chie October 26, 2009 @ 11:46 am

I actually haaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttte this movie. I think its just dull and stupid. Yet the strange thing is, I fucking love Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky. It may also be my love of Jennifer Tilly’s voice, but those movies were pretty fuggin’ funny. Especially the latter one. Whoever came up with that deserves an award.

  51. Bandaka October 26, 2009 @ 11:56 am

Would everyone just stfu about Predator for god’s sake? Damn you nerds, you have been complaining about every choice James has done for the entire season of Monster madness. Just let him do what he wants to do!

  52. clashkid83 October 26, 2009 @ 11:57 am

James, I really appreciate what you’re doing with monster madness. From one horror fanatic to another i would like to suggest featuring some Italian horror in your commentaries. Seeing that you have an unflinching knowledge in the genre I’m sure you have enough insight to let your fans know about directors such as Fulci, Argento, Bava, and the like. I see that your goal here is to expose your viewers to these films which i’m sure the majority are quite unfamiliar with. So I figured Some Euro horror warrants honorable mention. thanks!

  53. NintendoGal55 October 26, 2009 @ 12:18 pm

Oh my God, now Child’s Play!? Cowabunga! XD

    Okay, time to get serious.

Great review! You nailed it right on the head. I’ve seen the VHS boxes of Child’s Play at the old video rental store for several years. I didn’t know much about them, just that it was a killer doll named Chucky. Mom wouldn’t let me see them. Sure I was young at the time, but jeez.

Finally I rented them a few years ago and I have to say I was hooked. They were pretty good! Although I think saw the second one before the first, for some reason.

The first three were pretty good, capturing the image. And then the last two, Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky, as fun and entertaining as they were, they just weren’t scary at all. They were more like spoofs. Although it was interesting to see more of Chucky and get more of an inside on what his life is and has been. But really, there was no more surprises.

Although I really liked his design in those two movies. :D

    Great review as always!

  54. RandomNutjob October 26, 2009 @ 12:21 pm

    Just a few things:
1/ Wtf are underage people doing watching this? Deserve to be mentally scarred for not following age rating
2/ James films ALL 31 before October so requests are pointless unless for next year [if does MM like this again]
3/ I’ve not seen this but does boggle mind how managed to make FIVE films out of it – bring Chucky to me and i’d mash him – does at least build intrigue as to how on earth he lasted so long [like most villains in horror tbh i mean Jason has died at least twice]
That aside am loving reviews – especially as majority of recent ones i’ve actually seen :P

  57. Extrema October 26, 2009 @ 12:58 pm

    Yeah it’s working again :D

  58. robertjlong October 26, 2009 @ 1:15 pm

hey james do that 1975 dario argento movie called deep red .

…that damn robot doll puppet scene has to be the scariest thing I’ve ever seen on film. any one else think the same?

  59. EvilGoddess October 26, 2009 @ 1:21 pm

This movie made me so paranoid about my dolls coming to life…

It seems like a shame that they are going to remake child’s play….but at least they are going to keep Brad Dourif as the voice of chucky.

  60. mnz123 October 26, 2009 @ 1:29 pm

Chuck: Im Chucky. Wanna play? Mom: Im mommy. Want a spanking? LOL

  61. Dracurella143 October 26, 2009 @ 1:46 pm

Damn, I love that doll, Child’s play is one of the few horror series I’ve seen all movies from. Great fun!

  64. Rodrigo (Duvisa) October 26, 2009 @ 2:36 pm

this is the best ever!! but after the 3th one i dont like that much…

  65. Endless Mike October 26, 2009 @ 2:37 pm

I didn’t even realize that it was that movie when I saw the title. I’m from Germany and here the movie was titled “Chucky – The killer doll” [Chucky - Die Mörderpuppe]. I always loved the movies, only the latest really sucked.. Great review, MM09 rules!!

  66. tonyaj420 October 26, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

James you should’ve at least mentioned Brad Dourif, his voice made the movie. He also stole the show in The Two Towers and is really great in Halloween II!

  67. Mr. Arkadin October 26, 2009 @ 3:17 pm

For some reason I started thinking about Twonky while watching this, that old movie where Hans Conried’s TV set is walking around the house, wrecking stuff and being a pain in the ass.

  68. KirkandKessler October 26, 2009 @ 3:18 pm

I hate this fucking movie. It ruined my life. I saw no more than two minutes of this movie as a kid, and I was in therapy by age 4! Age 4! That’s what this movie did to me. I’m so afraid of this piece of shit even though I know it’s not real. It’s the trauma it’s caused me. It’s the only thing I’m afraid of, and it’s humiliating ’cause this is supposed to be a comedy. My fear has since escalated to having nightmares more fucked up than Lewis Carol. These nightmares are the scariest things ever imagined or on Earth. They’re indescribable. Whenever someone says the word “Chucky” I cringe, and to be honest, feel afraid. I’m an adult, now too. You people say don’t fuck with Chucky, while you’re all right. Don’t fuck him, and don’t let your kids fuck him. I hate this fucking movie, and I hate it’s fucking creators. I was too scared even to watch the review. I’m sure James had fun with it, but as a kid, it fucked with my mind to much. I was even watching South Park by that time, and THAT didn’t bother me. This, however, will haunt me for the rest of my life. I still love what you do James, but no more Monster Madness for me. I’m too traumatized. Surely some people must share my pain?…No, I’m just a wimp.

  69. drunkmun October 26, 2009 @ 3:21 pm

There is something about knee-high baddys that just aint scary. The Leprechaun was another knee-high bad guy. It’s just not scary. It’s dumb. I could so easily kill both of them with one hand tied behind my back.

Now, The Toxic Avenger. There’s a monster for ya. ;)

  70. drunkmun October 26, 2009 @ 3:25 pm

…also there are scarier things in Ireland than Leprechauns, winos for instance. I should know that’s were I’m from.

god,I hope you’re not going to review The Leprechaun in space. laughed at! :D

  71. SpiffyDragon13 October 26, 2009 @ 3:27 pm

    awesome review as always

  72. Blood Pump October 26, 2009 @ 3:39 pm

Bandaka, I wasn’t complaining about his choice, I was PRAISING it.

Unless you were talking about the other two guys, though only one of them was complaining about it.

  73. dennis October 26, 2009 @ 3:42 pm

Hi guys, it works for me now!
I actually called UPC and told them to refresh their main DNS server.. after a while and finally talking to the right person… it resolved in a working blip.tv.. lol

  74. KirkandKessler October 26, 2009 @ 3:47 pm

In response to my other comment, I would like to say, I didn’t watch the movie. I walked into a room when it was on TV. That is not my fault, also, in case someone jumps on me, I could just have a phobia of dolls…but I think it’s just this one. I still can’t force up the courage to watch this review. At least James picked a poster that didn’t have his fucked up, torn face that has disturbed me for life…His normal face wasn’t that bad, but it still scares the shit out of me just because I know who he is.

  75. ReesiePuffs October 26, 2009 @ 4:01 pm

My favorite parody of this film is the Seinfeld episode where Jerry is forced to sleep in Kramer’s apartment lit with spooky lighting. He keeps seeing Kramer’s doll, Mr. Marbles, run around during the night.

  76. Bandaka October 26, 2009 @ 4:17 pm

I swear if any more people complain about his choices for his projects iam going to freak out man!

  77. Sigurd October 26, 2009 @ 4:46 pm

    Awesome.
The reviews this year has good overall form and length. Love it!

  78. Sofe October 26, 2009 @ 5:07 pm

“Would everyone just stfu about Predator for god’s sake? Damn you nerds, you have been complaining about every choice James has done for the entire season of Monster madness. Just let him do what he wants to do!” oh Bandaka.I havent complained any choices what james has done.So what is your problem? I agree.James can do whatever he wants in his own shows and in his own site.I have no problem with that.Speaking about nerdiness,i have seen about 4 up to 8 movies what he have reviewed in monster madness.James has reviewed about 80movies in monster madness overall in past years. So think twice before you say ALL of us nerds.Keep up good work james!

  79. InkedUp October 26, 2009 @ 5:08 pm

The killer doll that never quit.
The last few film were to silly

  80. Greasy October 26, 2009 @ 5:22 pm

Very cool James. I know you’re a busy man but…

Would it be possible to compile the individual episodes of the MM seasons into a a single video (e.g. S1, S2, S3)? Because the videos are short, the clicking:watching ratio is pretty high.

In addition, I find your MM videos to be as compelling as your AVGN stuff and would love to see this become a year-round thing with a few episodes per month. There are just too many horror movies to cover even the staples!

    keep up the awesomeness!

  81. Sofe October 26, 2009 @ 5:22 pm

wich was last child play? third one?then agree with you,but it was also bad.Good night everyone,im going to sleep.

  82. KirkandKessler October 26, 2009 @ 5:55 pm

Replying to ReesiePuffs, I love that episode. It’s so hilarious. Best ending to any episode in the series. That is definately one of the best episodes. My favorite is The Butter Shave. That has nothing to do with this movie, though.

  83. pyromcr October 26, 2009 @ 6:28 pm

Never really was a scary movie for me…

  84. wimmywoo October 26, 2009 @ 6:45 pm

I saw allot of Child’s Play movies, the first ones where great, but i was always amazed at how a stupid doll could kill so many people, if my kid says to me, it’s alive! I’ll trow the doll out of the window immediately! :)

I remember being a kid and not having yet seen Child’s Play, finally convincing my mom to let me rent it from the local video store. I got it home, popped it in and watched. I realized I had been duped into watching the Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense version also called ‘Child’s Play’ about a family trapped in their own house. It actually ended up being pretty entertaining. Looking back it was likely no more than the video store clerk handing me the wrong video.

This movie was one of my favorite horror movies around Halloween when I was younger. I remember being in 3rd grade watching it with my friend in his parents room scared shitless. The 3rd one was actually one of my favorites when the kid is all grown up and at army camp. Anyway, keep up the good work.

  96. Bloodletskeleton October 26, 2009 @ 10:17 pm

I have the whole series of Chuck. :) He was my favorite when I was younger and still is one of my favorites. You know what you should do a Monster Madness review over. Stephen King’s IT(unless you have already done a review over it..not really sure) or Stephen King’s Graveyard Shift :) . Graveyard Shift was awesome :P , I own it as well. Not a lot of people I know like IT(Pennywise). Rather it’s the fear of clowns, or the movie itself. IT isn’t bad, I enjoy it…I mean I know it’s not great but it’s a good watch every now and then. I hate the fact they are going to remake IT(to go towards more of the story from the novel), yeah not the best idea considering they tried that with the Scy-fy release of Children of the Corn(remake), which was suppose to be more along the lines of the actual story…which turned out to be a big piece of shit. The movie was horrible. The original kicks the Scy-fy versions ass big time.

    To KirkandKesler,

I’d like to share a trauma of my own. No, never been in any therapy or things like that but there’s one horror movie related thing that still to this day scares the crap out of me and it is the cover/poster of Child’s Play 3. I first saw the cover at the local video rental store in the early 90s, I think must’ve been 11 or something (I was born in 1981, not that it matters). Since then, I was very cautious whenever visiting a video rental store not see that particular cover. I think the movie was pulled out for a little while in my country due to the child murderer incident few years after the video release in the UK and in that sense the tragedy had a blessing in disguise. Years ago, I saw Chucky’s Bride, had no problem watching it, actually enjoyed it, and a couple of months ago I finally saw the original trilogy on tv, and as far as I recall, it was the tv premiere of the first movie due to fact that it had been banned before that.

Anyway, thanks again James for great review and very many thanks to both James and the tv channel for not showing the poster of the third movie. In fact, during the first viewing of the review I held my palm in front of the video window just in case the CP3 poster should pop up and after being certain it didn’t I watched the review again unselfcensored.

Oh, by the way. I own a good sized Chucky doll, along with Tiffany. And the best part is Chucky can talk if you push his platform button. :D !!! And to those that fear Chucky, I had my Chucky in my room, right by my bed for going on…5 years now. He’s awesome!!! :D

  101. Bloodletskeleton October 26, 2009 @ 10:50 pm

Oh and my Chucky has his own little knife too, and his Bride of Chucky appearance!!! :D

  102. xshadyjokerx October 26, 2009 @ 11:00 pm

Thats great, I just saw that movie yesterday, chuckies so perverted its funny. good work

  103. Fracassi October 26, 2009 @ 11:04 pm

Tom Holland has never really nailed time-bomb suspense in his movies. I remember the first time I saw Fright Night I thought they could have really done more with the suspense (we really didn’t need to know that the kid was turned into a vampire when he showed up at Roddy’s). Anyway, I have always been surprised how Brad Dourif started his career with a bang, only later to find himself typecast as Chucky, and possibly Grima Wormtongue. I hope I named the director correctly… I always get Todd and Tom mixed up.

I remember seeing this in video as soon as we got a video recorder, one of films that mad the 80s horrors what it is. This kind of reminds me of the muppets of the ksill it takes to make puppers look real, they did a dam good job, kind of like the gremlin, all anamatronix and no cgi, because in that moment in time, there was non. By far one of the best 80’s horror film i have seen, because it is difference

  105. PSYOP Mike October 27, 2009 @ 12:12 am

    James,

I admire your work as AVGN and I think you have some real talent in your film analysis.

I saw the trailer for Child’s Play 2 when I was in the 2nd grade and I was up all night shaking. I have no other words to describe it, but the commercial just caused pure terror in me. I am a Paratrooper with US Army Psychological Operations now, and I’ve seen some pretty freaky shit, but I can honestly say that I was most terrified the first time I saw the Child’s Play 2 trailer.

I’m convinced that it freaked me out so bad because I had a lot of stuffed animals (including a my buddy) that we kept down in my basement. The thought of a child’s cherished toy coming to demonic life really rattled me psychologically. So much to the fact that I didn’t actually see the movie until I was 19. By that time, I was in college and thought it was pretty stupid, but the methodology behind Don Mancini’s anti-Cabbage Patch film was pure genius.

  106. Bandaka October 27, 2009 @ 12:35 am

Its just I cant help but feel vexed when people go boo hoo over James not doing the movie THEY wanted him to do. Half the time the movie they want to see reviewed has already been reviewed or is not worth reviweing becuase most already have seen the movie. The point of monster madness is to turn us onto horror movies that we may have missed of never heard of, not to just shove the same pile of shit down our throats, coompiling uninspired lists.

You rock on James. Dont let the haters get to you.

  107. gabriot October 27, 2009 @ 2:51 am

This movie had a similar effect on as a child as other people have had. Even today as a adult when I see the Chucky doll I get a bone chill up my spine. I had re occurring nightmares of this fuckin doll as a kid. Can’t say that about any other horror characters. This fucked up doll had a lasting effect.

  109. Starwarskid October 27, 2009 @ 8:05 am

Ahh.. That one is beautiful. They made some similar movie about a jack-in-the-box. I don’t know which one came first but I remember enjoying both movies.

  111. robertjlong October 27, 2009 @ 2:09 pm

hey james do that 1975 dario argento movie called deep red .

…that damn robot doll puppet scene has to be the scariest thing I’ve ever seen on film. any one else think the same?

  112. Razo1 October 27, 2009 @ 2:33 pm

“Trilogy of Terror” had 3 short scary stories and one starred Karen Black. Anyone remember this? The native doll that comes to life and terrorizes Karen Black with a butcher knife? Scared the hell out of me as a kid. I think the scariest doll ever was in an episode of Rod Sterling’s “Night Gallery”. Child’s Play made me laugh my ass off! Doll was funnier than hell!

  113. WTF Kid October 27, 2009 @ 3:42 pm

wow this movie could not have scarred me more. when i was little, as punishment my dad would trick me into watching this movie… one of the reasons i moved out when i was 16 :D

Say, did you ever realize the connection between Child’s Play and Toy Story?

Both have toys that come to life, and both the main human child character are named Andy.

    Just something to think about…

Thank you, I am a true Fan of cinemassacre and I just get fed up with all these negative nancys on this site.

  118. Ben_from_G-town October 28, 2009 @ 6:41 am

Good ole’ Chucky! Luckily I never saw it at a young age, but dolls CAN be scary, I will admit. Especially the ones whose eyes open and close.

They get real wonky with age and will open or close their eyes with slightest vibration or movement.

  119. KirkandKessler October 28, 2009 @ 8:42 am

THEBLOODLETSKELETON, it’s not that funny. Everyone has a phobia, and while I hate the shit out of this movie, I give it credit, for taking advantage of people like me. I never saw the movie, just posters and a trailer, but that was enough. I appreciate whoever responded to me about video stores and being cautious around them, because I don’t even go into video stores anymore. Not even Newbury Comics. I send my friends in to buy my shirts. I can stanmd blood, but it’s not about that. It’s about having to accept that that thing is supposed to be alive. I can’t suspend that disbelief, and if I try, I only hurt myself, and quite honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it. Probably not a bad movie. (Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars.) So I’ll go with what I hear. Why can’t horror movies be more psychological, though? Like Silence of the Lambs. I love that movie. My friends go, “This is the scariest movie ever”, so I saw it. They laughed at how much I enjoyed it, knowing I can’t watch this movie. I bet Phantasmogoria will be a great movie. (Big Marilyn Manson fan here.)

  120. Dark Omega November 7, 2009 @ 1:43 am

I loved these movies as a kid. I even had one of the stupid mutilated chucky dolls I used to scare my cousin. I wanted to modify it with robotics but never got the time to do it.

Other good ones are “Dolly Dearest”. That one well, I still hate watching it. Don’t forget Puppet Master.

  121. RottenPsycho November 9, 2009 @ 4:27 am

i love all the chucky movies! i feel bad for the boy… nobody believes him =/

  122. Adrian DX November 15, 2009 @ 11:46 pm

I’ve always wondered how horror movies with kids as important roles work when being filmed. I mean, they can’t scar the kids for life by putting them directly in the gory etc. scenes, can they?

And also, when do these kids get to actually see the whole film, I’m sure it’s earlier then the average kid would get permission to watch them, but still, it’s something I’ve been thinking about forever.

Anyways, this was a good one. I’ve never seen the Childs Play movies, but I got a little inspiration to pick this one up and give it a go.
