  3. destroysanity October 28, 2009 @ 3:04 am

    This movie looks amazing! :O

Tobe Hooper is a great director. His remake of The Toolbox Murders is quite entertaining.

  4. Spokavriel October 28, 2009 @ 3:05 am

I can’t believe I forgot this one. They had some amazing fire effects in it. You showed one of the nicer onces where the hand of flame seemed to be coming out of the mirror.

Great review with few spoilers beyond what you could guess from the back of the box.

  5. mestre12 October 28, 2009 @ 3:07 am

  7. Y. A-H. October 28, 2009 @ 3:20 am

Oh how dismayed he must be to be spontaneously combusting! Could you imagine what it would be like with your gf? Come here honey, give me a kiss.. OH GOD OH GOD!!! THE INSIDE OF MY MOUTH IS BURNING UP LIKE EATING A SLICE OF PIZZA THATS JUST COME OUT OF THE OVEN OF A VOLCANO!! AHHHHH

    Awesome.

  8. KojimaMetalGearfan October 28, 2009 @ 3:33 am

Another absolutely very great and incredible performance by Brad Dourif, better known as the voice of Chucky. When he gets angry in this movie as well as some of the memorable scenes in the first 3 Child’s Play movies, especially the ones where Chucky’s all pissed off and looking for a killing, he most definitely means it by the anger in his voice as well as his facial expressions.

  9. CabinFever12 October 28, 2009 @ 3:41 am

AWESOME, please make a predator review PLEASE

  10. bribrihate October 28, 2009 @ 3:42 am

I’m not going to lie, this just looks dumb. Don’t get me wrong, I love dumb horror movies. I think Troll 2 is amazingly bad, but just as good at the same time. Killer Klowns From Outer Space sounds ridiculous if you try to explain the plot to someone, but is just plain awesome. Basket Case is like that too. But this… this just looks dumb. Although Brad does seem awesome in it, as he always is.

The Brain looked like a dumb movie I could like though. :)

  11. Sirius October 28, 2009 @ 4:09 am

    I agree.
    This does look very mediocre.

  12. discoron77 October 28, 2009 @ 4:09 am

Man, I wanted one of those see-through light up phones so bad back then!

  13. Karate Kid Icarus October 28, 2009 @ 4:40 am

    Good Review.

    Cheers

  14. conscious October 28, 2009 @ 4:58 am

lol @ ‘talk about being hot-headed’

  15. Daikun October 28, 2009 @ 5:08 am

I’d love to see this guy walk up to Donald Trump and spout his catchphrase.

  16. xdeathknightx October 28, 2009 @ 5:14 am

Hmm another one to go on my “must see this sometimes” list. Looks pretty interesting and hell a lot of movies that are supposed to be good are really mediocre movies saved by great acting.
But I have watched too much of That 70s show in my life, everytime someone was burning I couldn’t help but hear Kelso go: “BURRRRRRRRRN!”

  17. dicnar October 28, 2009 @ 5:21 am

Wow, never heard of that one, thx. James! BTW. Isn’t that the guy who played one of the pilots in “Critters 4″. I just remember that face.

  18. friggatry October 28, 2009 @ 5:21 am

This movie is dumb as all hell, but Brad Dourif makes anything worth watching. He’s almost as awesome as Jeffrey Combs. Almost.

  19. Mattematask October 28, 2009 @ 6:12 am

Never heard of it, but it sure looks awesome!!

  20. monsha October 28, 2009 @ 6:20 am

Wow! I never realized that the South Park episode ‘Spontaneous Combustion’ was based on that film..which was based on true cases? Amazing!

  21. WTF Kid October 28, 2009 @ 6:22 am

is this movie really suppost to be scary? i mean, it looked cool and all but not scary or contained any monsters.

still, good review. i had always heard of that name before but never seen the movie. looks kinda funny

  22. Optics October 28, 2009 @ 6:30 am

    Ohh the 90’s!

  23. Cyril ViXP October 28, 2009 @ 6:34 am

Whoow, it’s better to check up this movie!

  24. Billz October 28, 2009 @ 6:45 am

Everytime I watch this film, I just wanna shout ‘flame on!’, lol.

  25. Ben_from_G-town October 28, 2009 @ 6:52 am

A movie about spontaneous combustion, phenomenon I am very interested in, and involving this talent, and I’ve never heard of it?! For shame! Thanks for reviewing this James, I’ve got to check it out!

  26. horrorfanboy October 28, 2009 @ 7:05 am

I’ve heard of this film but never seen it. Looks cool, James. Thanks for telling me about it.

  27. Scary German Guy October 28, 2009 @ 7:29 am

I gotta see this one, I can’t believe I haven’t heard of it! I thought I’d seen everything with Brad Dourif, going back to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Anyways for anyone who wants to know more about Spontaneous Human Combustion, as a phenomena, check this out:

  28. Niekpas October 28, 2009 @ 7:34 am

Lol, there’s also an album by Liquid Trio Experiment called Spontaneous Combustion :)

  29. Scary German Guy October 28, 2009 @ 7:34 am

Oh I probably should have mentioned…the youtube link shows actual cases of spontaneous combustion, so there’s actual photos of real people who have died from it….fair warning. (but all you can really see is ash.)

  30. Tobs88 October 28, 2009 @ 7:37 am

Just noticed; that’s Grima Wormtounge from LOTR! Wasn’t aware he was the voice of Chucky. This looks worth a view. Gotta love Monster Madness!!

  31. youmeanthemovielied October 28, 2009 @ 7:56 am

    Good start for the 1990s

Didn’t Brad play Billy Bibbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest?

  34. MorePAIN October 28, 2009 @ 8:51 am

Wow is all I can say Wow! That looks crazy. He called me and fire came out of the phone lol!

  35. Pell October 28, 2009 @ 9:05 am

James, when I try to view this video, I get to the part where you say ‘he takes on spontaneous combustion’, and suddenly it freezes. If I hit play again, it takes me to a review of a Star Trek movie.

Just an FYI, in case this problem has suddenly occurred.

Oh god, only a couple videos left!

Please review Event Horizon. That movie is the shit! It’s one of my favorite horror movies of all time and it would be weird if you didn’t review it. The only bad side of the film is its ending which sucked ass but before that, it’s an all-out scarefest. And I also hope the last video of Monster Madness 3 is gonna be a compilation of 2000’s horror movies just like you did last time. Although I’d love it if it was a bit longer. Can’t wait!

  41. Chie October 28, 2009 @ 10:40 am

Yes, James, Spontaneous Combustion is real. This movie is anything BUT a realistic portrayal, this is as far fetched as it gets. In real life, a few spontaneous combustion incidents have happened, usually in someones bed while they were asleep. People are still trying to figure out the cause of it as its a very rare, very strange event. Another strange thing about it is usually the people who suffer it suffer minimal burns, even if other things are permanently fire damaged.

As far as this movie goes, its pretty fake, although I’m going to have to see it because Brad Dourif is one of my favourite actors. In fact I was disappointed that he played Chucky.

I’d love to see you review Body Melt, but I have a feeling you haven’t seen it. It’s obscure, but it is hilarious. This review made me think of Body Melt. Its a satirical gore movie made in Australia in the vein of Peter Jacksons early films such as Bad Taste. It’s essentially about the happiest little suburb on the planet, that gets a free sample of a diet pill. As soon as they take that free sample, they start to melt and mutate. The film is disgusting yet absolutely hilarious. My favourite scene is when a man is eaten by his wife’s placenta.

  42. Fracassi October 28, 2009 @ 11:07 am

Well since there’s so many Tobe Hooper movies (No IFM?). I should point out that Lifeforce is on Crackle right now.

  43. Fracassi October 28, 2009 @ 11:10 am

Well since there’s so much love for One Flew and Tobe Hooper, I should point out that Nurse Ratchet is in Invaders…

  44. Junta Juleil October 28, 2009 @ 11:18 am

Brad Dourif is always fully committed to whatever shitty horror role he finds himself confined in, and frequently emerges with actually masterful performances- his ‘Nam/pest control monologue in GRAVEYARD SHIFT nearly makes that movie worth watching, he’s one of the best parts of CRITTERS 4 (surprisingly an underrated film), and his bit part in Dario Argento’s TRAUMA strikes just the right note of fevered paranoia.

Somehow SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION has slipped past me, and I look forward to checking it out. Nice review!

  45. Theopontus October 28, 2009 @ 11:29 am

Fire coming through the phone? That’s a new way to kill at a distance which much offendeth the rules of physicks.

  46. Mauricione October 28, 2009 @ 11:36 am

He also played quite good role in David Linch DUNE as Piter De Vries.

  47. HDX October 28, 2009 @ 11:40 am

i can’t nobody noticed this yet! Brad Dourif was in Lord of the Rings! he was the Saruman agent who was poisoning the mind of the king of Rohan, i forget his name though.

    ….yeah, im a lotr geek.

  48. andywagz October 28, 2009 @ 11:41 am

boy, does that ever look like a shitty movie.

  49. HDX October 28, 2009 @ 11:41 am

    oops someone did. nvm.

  50. algi2 October 28, 2009 @ 12:13 pm

    Yeah, Piter de Vries.

  51. uuuuuuuuu October 28, 2009 @ 12:17 pm

    “but this bomb is nuclear”?

  52. motakay October 28, 2009 @ 1:12 pm

Have not seen this. Looking at this now it feels like a rip of. Stepehn Kings fire starter came before this one right?

  53. tonyaj420 October 28, 2009 @ 3:03 pm

Dourif’s greatest performance maybe ever is in Zombie’s Halloween 2. I suggest everyone check it out.

  54. JohnnyThrust October 28, 2009 @ 4:00 pm

Holy shit BriBriHate mentioned Troll 2. Im convinced that, that is the worst movie of all time. I remember watching that when I was 8 years old, and thinking I could write a better movie. If anyone wants to see the worst movie ever, watch Troll 2.

  55. darcman0 October 28, 2009 @ 4:40 pm

I’m surprises you did this movie and didn’t do Scanners. No love for Scanners?

  56. Ypsilon October 28, 2009 @ 5:00 pm

I HAVE to see this shit NOW! What an awesome performance!

  57. wecantgetaway October 28, 2009 @ 5:17 pm

Is that John Landis at 1:03? haha

  58. wecantgetaway October 28, 2009 @ 5:18 pm

Oops, my b. Commented before you said it. Awesome.

  59. horrorfanboy October 28, 2009 @ 5:25 pm

At 1:06, he gets so angry he does his Chucky voice.

  60. Mansondevil33 October 28, 2009 @ 5:49 pm

Reminds me of Stephen King’s Firestarter.

  61. Mansondevil33 October 28, 2009 @ 5:50 pm

Accept its not the cute little girl from Poltergeist its the twisted voice of Chucky

  62. Bloodletskeleton October 28, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

    Good movie, bad critics(comments..majority wise).

  63. pyromcr October 28, 2009 @ 7:01 pm

Human spontaneous combustion is possible and has happened before, this movie is nothing like the real thing. Looks like just another failed movie that did not have to have been made…

  64. pojut October 28, 2009 @ 7:33 pm

Tobe Hooper is the MAN! I haven’t seen this one though, definitely gonna add it to the Netflix queue.

  66. Jacob Kaiju October 28, 2009 @ 9:47 pm

Another good review, James. I don’t think I ever heard of this movie until now.

  67. Mooney October 28, 2009 @ 10:14 pm

Brad Dourif was also excellent in Exorcist III. Halloween mivoe marathon is very entertaining – thanks!

  68. Danomaticc October 28, 2009 @ 10:49 pm

Hope stephen king’s “IT” is next ;p

  69. FreddysFingers October 28, 2009 @ 11:05 pm

    Kinda reminds me of ‘Firestarter.’

  70. Irish October 29, 2009 @ 1:05 am

i dont mean to nick pick one of ur videos james
but i couldnt help but notice theres no monster for this monster madness video..

  71. Iron Tiger October 29, 2009 @ 1:45 am

I bet he would be great at Barbecues. Who needs coals when he can just spout out obscenities.

  72. Bandaka October 29, 2009 @ 2:36 am

To all who say there is no monster in this movie. Is a man who is basically a walking bomb not a monster? Is a man who can set you on fire through the FREAKIN TELEPHONE not a monster? What are your standards of a monster?

  73. Irish October 29, 2009 @ 2:59 am

u make a good point but fact is he’s still human
and if spontaneous conbustion is real it dosent really go into a unreal catagory for a movie
and my standards of a monster..something that is 100% made up outta someones imagination and is not human .

  74. Martin Ekdahl October 29, 2009 @ 9:01 am

The movie seems to be a crappier version of “Firewalker” but I have to give you right on the great expressions on that guys face. He is explosive!

  75. bigbadwolf72 October 29, 2009 @ 9:43 am

I was hoping he was going to review Stephen King’s It for his 1990 review. But then again it WAS a made-for-TV movie. But I still feel it’s worth a good review. THEY ALL FLOAT!!

  76. sciphon October 29, 2009 @ 6:10 pm

    Bright Wizard FTW.

  77. Necramonium October 31, 2009 @ 3:37 pm

Brad Dourif, great actor, recently saw him in the movie Mississip Burning…

  78. doctordecay November 2, 2009 @ 4:45 pm

Upon reading this fellow’s (Brad Dourif) IMDB page I was real surprised to have found him in so many films and TV shows as I was surprised to find he did more than the meager 2 shows I’ve seen him in. (Especially surprised to find out he did the voice of Chucky)

Seems he has that sort of history, playing unstable madmen type characters. I remember him from 2 prominent (laugh if you want) Sci Fi series. He played crewman Lon Suder in ST: Voyager for three episodes; a betazoid who felt nothing at all and turned out to be a homicidal ‘numb’ type.

He also played Brother Edward (Aka Charlie) in Babylon 5; a convicted serial-murderer who was sentenced to ‘Death of Personality’ and ended up with his mind wiped, serving as a Monk who was part of an Order that lived on the station.

Course I look through his list and see a lot of roles he’s been in that I haven’t even heard of.

Thanks for this one James :) Just finding out more about that actor made the review worthwhile, apart from your usual cool presentation :)
