more of this “i won’t spoil the ending” stuff

are you expecting us to go out and look for these episodes and buy them or download each individual one? you just basically make a 10 part commercial. exactly what commercials for upcoming TV shows do is what you just did.

  2. Mr. Dogma October 29, 2009 @ 3:33 pm

Don’t be a dick about it. For people who’ve already seen the episode, they’ll know what he’s talking about. For people who haven’t, they’ll have a general idea of the plot so if they want to watch it, they won’t already know the ending. If they don’t care, they can just Wiki it.

He’s putting out his favorite episodes so that people can see what he likes and maybe go find it if they’re curious. Personally, I want to see the “Yellow” episode.

  3. ScaryManiac October 29, 2009 @ 3:33 pm

Nice surprise. I went here to check out the list of the MM movies and suddenly there are news here!
Enjoyed the video very much cause I didn’t know the series at all.

    uuuuuu(etc) don’t be a prick

  4. Hazuzu October 29, 2009 @ 3:36 pm

    I’d say: Hell yeah !!
    Nice…as everytime

  5. shinshilas October 29, 2009 @ 3:38 pm

And I’m very proud to say that Robert Zemeckis is Lithuanian :)

    P.S. I’m Lithuanian too.

  6. donpoppito October 29, 2009 @ 3:44 pm

Why didnt you mention the movie from 1972? just curious since the Christmas episode came from that.

  7. rblueboy777 October 29, 2009 @ 4:11 pm

This is awesomely werid. I just finished a show talking about the two other hosts from the EC comic that actually appeared in the second season of the animated show.

I really don’t want to be one of those guys that postings include there own stuff, but the timing to this is just perfect.

    http://familiarfaces.blip.tv/file/2782010/

Third pig is awesome but i’m alittle disappointed that you didn’t have “Dig That Cat, He’s Really Gone”. Thanks for the awesome list and all the other Halloween stuff.

  8. arctifox October 29, 2009 @ 4:13 pm

Yay! I haven’t seen all of the episodes and this show wasn’t on TV in my country until recent, but my favourite so far has to be Abra Cadaver, that scientist was pretty cool, how he starts as being total pussy in a prologue and then he is a sinister unrecognized genius.
I’ve recently watched the 2006 antology series Nightmares and Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King, and episodes 1 and 4 really surprised me, especially episode 4, it has that “beyond TV” quality and a unexpectedly high production value. And episode 7, although not at all bloody or gruesome, has a black humour pretty similar to Tales from the Cript.

  9. jnywest October 29, 2009 @ 4:30 pm

I only watched this show from time to time. However, I never really knew that it could be this good. I guess I missed out on most of the quality episodes. With the star power the the TV shows had, Im suprised the movies were not better, espcially “Bordello of Blood”.

  10. isgar October 29, 2009 @ 4:33 pm

I’m glad that it’s spoiler free, don’t change that :P
Personally I grew up with Tales from the Cryptkeeper, and although it was the “weaker” version, it gave me a lot of nightmares when I was younger. Now I’d still have to get the Region 1 DVDs in order to see the complete series of Tales from the Crypt, that’s why I love those videos of yours. Twilight Zone was the exact same thing =<

  11. EvilGoddess October 29, 2009 @ 4:33 pm

    Great top 10 James.

My favorite episodes have always been Death of Some Salesman and Loved To Death.

Bonus Video! Thank you. I love John Kassir as the voice of the Cryptkeeper! The animated Television show also had John as the voice of the keeper as well.

  14. CopyleftRecords October 29, 2009 @ 5:23 pm

The Christmas episode is the only one I can clearly remember from the series, and I loved it when I saw it. Scared the shit outta me, gave me nightmares for a week. Good stuff.

  15. donpoppito October 29, 2009 @ 5:28 pm

Actually bought a 2 disc dvd at Walmart about 2 weeks ago that had the 1972 Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror and it was in the 5$ bin. I’d suggest you might look there if you’re interested in see’ing either one of those.

  16. Devilmark October 29, 2009 @ 5:55 pm

My favorite episode is the one where the young Lumberjack is that crew’s best chance for winning the chopping competition, and ends up fooling around with the foreman’s wife(cause she’s a skank). That one got wild. And of course, I loved the movie, ‘Demon Knight’.

  17. Spazz Master October 29, 2009 @ 6:28 pm

    #1 is my #1!!!

    WOO HOO!!!

  25. 80sMade October 29, 2009 @ 10:15 pm

  26. Donelop October 29, 2009 @ 10:20 pm

does anyone know why i cant view the video? I watch the ad and ends the video? Maybe its because i live in Canada?

  27. tomc1980 October 29, 2009 @ 10:30 pm

Awesome again James loved Tales from the Crypt.

  28. tidus316 October 29, 2009 @ 10:42 pm

Great Review, my fav episode is “Abre Cadaver” the one with Beau Bridges ;)

  29. tidus316 October 29, 2009 @ 10:48 pm

By the way, here in Chile the show is called “Cuentos de la Cripta” and was really popular

  30. Mr. Arkadin October 29, 2009 @ 10:54 pm

    Jesus Christ.

What do we get on Halloween, Faces of Death?

  31. avgnfan3 October 29, 2009 @ 11:42 pm

oh man! i heard the namwe a lot when I was a kid, but never watched any of the episodes, probably wouldn’t have been allowed to anyway, but they look awesome!! i might search for them on youtube or something.

btw thanks for the extra video and the avgn episodes of castlevania, on top of monstermadness, you must have worked your ass off, and for that, we love you!!!

  32. bribrihate October 29, 2009 @ 11:48 pm

Can’t believe you didn’t include The Man Who Was Death, Dig That Cat…He’s Real Gone, Fitting Punishment, OR Television Terror.

    CRAP LIST.

  33. tomcatadam October 30, 2009 @ 1:17 am

I love the top ten videos James makes.

  34. killswitch October 30, 2009 @ 2:01 am

My favourite episode is Televison Terror. (Season 2, Episode 16)

  35. wolfeyes October 30, 2009 @ 2:35 am

i can’t believe it. i just somehow knew that cutting cards would be the number one. it’s also my favorite of all time. granted, the ending is incredibly cheesy and weak, but the journey leading up to it is soooo sooooo good. the dialog, the acting, the suspense. it’s tops. great list james…great list.

  36. tvkijker October 30, 2009 @ 2:57 am

Wow, it’s pretty cool to see Kirk Douglas, who was great in Paths of Glory, in a similar role but a totally different movie. Great list!

  37. Karate Kid Icarus October 30, 2009 @ 3:05 am

These were always a nice treat every Sunday at 10 when it was on. But I guess the rumor was that Directors were coming up short and Actors were being picky because of who was getting the exposure.

But either way, not bad I guess.

  38. Ben_from_G-town October 30, 2009 @ 4:09 am

Awesome, Tales from the Crypt! I love this show! You forgot to mention it also came on Fox late at night for those of us who didn’t have HBO!

I must admit I don’t remember the Yellow or the animated episode, though those sound interesting. I really like the one with the puppet and the ventriloquist is a good one too!

  39. Tuska October 30, 2009 @ 5:00 am

Yellow reminds me of Paths of Glory. Both are great but I prefer the ending of Yellow.

  40. henry_the_horse October 30, 2009 @ 5:30 am

    @Tuska
I was just going to post…

James- You overlooked two movie connections from your top ten. One being “Yellow” and “Paths of Glory”. The second being “And All Through the House” which was previously done in the 1972 “Tales From the Crypt” film (though I’m sure this story originated from the comic). One of my favorite horror and horror-anthology films. I probably haven’t watched an episode of the TV series in a decade but I remembered 75% of those you featured. Good calls, excellent job.

  41. Alphapix October 30, 2009 @ 6:33 am

Oh cmon. The only thing I remember from that show is the Whoopy Goldberg episode. It was SO AWESOME!!!!

  42. Rico October 30, 2009 @ 7:00 am

    What a nice surprise!

    But I can’t discripe how I hate Skype.com’s interface. It’s so bad…

  43. rashktah October 30, 2009 @ 7:25 am

Damn, you’re on a run!!!! Keep it up!!!

  44. Scary German Guy October 30, 2009 @ 7:55 am

@Donelop – Try another Browser, I had trouble with IE, but it opens fine for me in Firefox.

Holy shit! Tales from the Crypt…Totally forgot about this show…Nice!

Anyone remember RAY BRADBURY THEATER? It was similar.
All I remember was an episode with Eugene Levy, where he gets all his bones removed, and ends up a gibbering pile of flesh on the ground that can’t move.
    It was messed up!

  45. Meru-Sama October 30, 2009 @ 9:07 am

I remember as a kid, sitting down to watch Tales from the Crypt was one of the highlights of the night. I really do miss that show. I don’t remember the cartoon, however.

Your top ten list was great. I still remember almost all of those episodes and the war episode I didn’t even remember being a Tales from the Crypt episode. I guess it really was that good.

I need to dig up the Tales from the Crypt Christmas CD… that’s an album no one should be without.

  46. Optics October 30, 2009 @ 9:29 am

    Cool, I loved this show!

  48. Bloodletskeleton October 30, 2009 @ 1:08 pm

Tales from the Crypt is the best anthology horror, television series. I have all seven seasons, plus the 1972 Tales from the Crypt/Vault of horror duo feature. Also I have a couple old Tales from the Crypt comic(reprints, if you know what happened to the EC comics during the 50s). Also I have a Tales from the Crypt little collectible Crypt Keeper, along with Tales from the Crypt presents: Demon Knight(fav), Bordello of Blood, and Ritual. Too bad about Dead Easy..that would have been a fun one, but fucking not enough black people in the film. I have watched the whole series bunches of times, and grew up with it since I was a child in the 90s.
Also a lot of you are forgetting, along with James that “All through the House” was the pilot episode of Tales from the Crypt. John Kassir also played in an episode from the series entitled “Oils well that ends well”.
I was actually able to show a episode an episode at school when I was a senior. In my English 4 class, somewhere towards the demise of the year we were studying about Hamlet. When all that was done my teacher asked us(class of 6 students) if we had anything relating to the subject. I talked with her after class and she said it was okay, as long as there wasn’t any nudity. I was over joyed. It was the episode entitled “Top Billing” starring Jon Lovitz. You got to love Lovitz. Lol. Other than that, awesome bonus James. Your number one, is also one of my favorites.

  49. marclawson October 30, 2009 @ 3:31 pm

James, thanks for being so generous with the videos this month. I’m a teacher and I watch these on my break. They really brighten up my day.

  50. comptonst88 October 30, 2009 @ 3:32 pm

Do you think maybe that the Three Pigs episode was the inspiration for the Happy Tree Friends show.

  51. horrorfanboy October 30, 2009 @ 5:08 pm

Freakin awesome! I’ll watch it right now!

  52. horrorfanboy October 30, 2009 @ 5:21 pm

Well I watched it and I loved it. I haven’t really seen the show. I’ve seen clips online but not full episodes. I do have the Tales from the Crypt movie “Demon Knight” and I also have the original 70s Crypt movie though.

  53. Martin Ekdahl October 30, 2009 @ 5:35 pm

Oh.. that last one must have hurt!

  54. MRCAB October 30, 2009 @ 6:12 pm

Wasn’t that one-hour-long episode somehow related to “Paths of Glory” the Stanley Kubrick film staring Kirk Douglas? Seems very similar.

  55. ZachR October 30, 2009 @ 9:29 pm

Man, I really wish I wasn’t born in the early 90’s so I could’ve experienced this show. It’s funny, because the majority of the list are the only ones I’ve seen (and I agree Cutting Cards is awesome. The ending is hilarious). I’ve seen a few other ones, but they were pretty weak or completely void on the gruesomeness factor (Dead Right, The Man Who Was Death, Whirlpool, The Pit, Staired in Horror). One thing you forgot to mention though was that And All Through The House was also directed by Robert Zemeckis, who served as one of the executive producers on the show.

Great list James. This show kicks some serious ass.

  56. Kevmickglock October 31, 2009 @ 12:55 am

Tales from the crypt always reminded me of “Creep Show.”
both of these had the same style but Creep Show was a movie instead.

    Another little fun fact:
Stephen King had a cameo in one of the stories.

  57. Kevmickglock October 31, 2009 @ 1:06 am

I’ll just correct myself now, I just saw #20.
    Creepshow was already done.
Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow are awesome to watch for pre-cg horror.
    Good Reveiw James!

  58. Sofe October 31, 2009 @ 5:54 am

aah tales from the crypt i remember this show and its nice host. But i think i only saw those less gross episodes, because i dont remember so much blood in series. However,it seems that every summer tv airs tales from the crypt,so i will check them out again in the next summer.Nice work james

  59. Aramax November 1, 2009 @ 5:10 am

The last Tales of the crypt bit where they chop each others fingers reminded me of Four Rooms. I wonder if James ever watched this cult classic Quentin Tarantino movie.

  60. AngryDiabeticVideoGameNerd November 2, 2009 @ 5:59 pm

Man When this show came out i was about 4 years old and i used to take a shit when i heard the theme song, but after a couple of years it turned into one of my favorite show.

  61. Daniel Krone November 3, 2009 @ 4:02 pm

“Cutting Cards” is a classic probably my third favorite of the series but no love for “What’s Cooking” the Christopher Reeve episode, that in my opinion is the best, but like you said with Twilight Zone there are so many episodes everyone’s list is going to be different. Also a fan of “The New Arrival” love the atmosphere. Deathtraps and scary house. “Strung Along” though is great. The 1972 Amicus “Tales from the Crypt” movie is one of my favorites. Great reviews this year. I now wanna pick up “The Brain”.
