    Hi James,

Any chance of the nerd reviewing the BTTF2 & 3 game(s)?

I remember begging my parents for it for xmas then when xmas came around wishing i’d asked for something else instead… Like a dog poo wrapped in an article written by glenn beck or something.

  10. syntheticsw November 6, 2009 @ 4:45 pm

The “Back to the Future” Trilogy kicks ass !

  11. Spazz Master November 6, 2009 @ 4:47 pm

    “That’s like a baby’s toy!”

The scary thing is we’re not too far off from that becoming a reality.

    Project Natal, anyone?

    LOL! Great review, sir!

  12. insomnigamer November 6, 2009 @ 4:53 pm

Whoa the Lone Pine change got past me for all these years. Boy do I feel unobservant.

Maybe it’s a testament to how much the movie makes you care about the characters..yeah.

Man, James, you sure are a hardcore Back to the Future fan, and it’s really special (to me at least) that those locations are still recognizable.

Heh, someone pointed out it was Elijah Wood as one of those boys at the end. Was that you that told people about that?

  13. GodAlliz November 6, 2009 @ 5:02 pm

Doc Brown is the greatest movie character ever invented. And 80% of that just has to do with Christopher Lloyd being so awesome.

Perfect movie choice, James. Much appreciated. Loves.

  14. Geoffrey November 6, 2009 @ 5:10 pm

If you ever visit our beautiful country of The Netherlands, be sure to pay a visit to the headquarters of Paradigit (a big computer company). The owner bought the original DeLorean :) .

  15. Twitchy November 6, 2009 @ 5:10 pm

    Yeah boyyy.
    My favorite movies.

  16. avgnfan3 November 6, 2009 @ 5:16 pm

oh man, I was soo lucky to have caught this movie months ago, I really did like it, but for some reason never got around to watch the second or third, I really should before watching the rest of your reviews.

So that’s where that line came from in your “NES periopherals” review
“what you gotta use your hands? that’s like a baby’s toy” I was always wondering what you meant.

  17. clammy November 6, 2009 @ 5:45 pm

    >Project Natal, anyone?

    The eyetoy ripoff?

    no thanks

  18. TwistedSpeech November 6, 2009 @ 5:59 pm

Great review as always, but do you have to use Spike TV’s website? Their site sucks ass. It takes forever to upload anything. No indication bars are used to show you if the video is uploading or not. Bottom line, stop using Spike TV for movie reviews when your contract is up with them. Leave it to Cinemassacre. I know plenty of people will donate money to your site to keep it up and running.

  19. Juanako26 November 6, 2009 @ 6:00 pm

I feel exactly the same way, even though I don’t really like the third one so much, the first always gives me goosebumps with the scene at the dance.

Never noticed the “Lone Pine” mall detail. :-)

One thing I never understood about Back to the Future, in the third movie when Marty took the DeLorean and went back to the Old West it ran out of gas and needed to find an alternate way to reach 88 miles per hour. But could’nt Marty and the Doc just take the gas from the first DeLorean that went back in time? unless that DeLorean ran out of gas too.

I loved that movie man. You are a long lost twin I swear. Everything you like I like!

  24. ggdalp November 6, 2009 @ 7:00 pm

Dude i cant belive it!, i just loved this triology since i was a child, and man the date they always travel is 5/11/year, witch happens to be my birth day.

that makes me love even more this movies!

  25. You Can Just Walk Over It November 6, 2009 @ 7:02 pm

1.21 Gigawatts!! One point twenty one Giga-Giga-Giga-Giga-Giga Watts!!

    Great Scott…

My favorite part of the first movie was near the end when the Doc tried to yank the cord at the top of the clock tower, and pulled too hard, disconnecting it. He gasped, realizing his failure, and screamed with his mouth open, as any mad scientist would.

  26. rashktah November 6, 2009 @ 7:03 pm

Brilliant review, full of heart. What a great movie… they don’t do them today like they did ‘em yesterday…

  27. mlross15 November 6, 2009 @ 7:07 pm

Way good review, loved all of the movies. Wondered when you were ever gonna review them since you reference them alot.

  28. Starwarsnerd25 November 6, 2009 @ 7:13 pm

I cant believe i havent seen this movie yet

  29. insomnigamer November 6, 2009 @ 7:43 pm

    @BUSINESSCASUALGAMER:

That DeLorean was struck by lightning and that may have also ignited the gas, to some degree..or some other such way to render it useless. (I think the Doc said it would never fly again, and something about zapped circuits)

Haven’t thought about it until you brought it up, but if my car was struck by lightning I’m guessing that something bad would happen to the fuel in it. *shrug*

  30. CCH3900 November 6, 2009 @ 7:44 pm

businesscasualgamer, that car was buired and it would have taken too long to extract it. Not to mention a time paradox.

I live near the street where Needles almost hit the car in Part 2. I remember when my parents told me that, I had them take me over there so I could inspect it. There’s more trees and housing in the area now, but it’s still recognizable.

  33. TiagoJMonteiro November 6, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

I love this movie. I got sick in November 2002, and didn’t go to school til January. We had bought the DVD Trilogy of Back to the Future, and I dedicated most of the time watching those masterpieces of comedy and science-fiction.

    :)

  34. MrX8991 November 6, 2009 @ 8:43 pm

I think I speak for all Back to the Future fans when I say thank you for reviewing the best movie of all time in your own unique way, James. It’s great to see all of those locations as they appear today.

  35. PouKii November 6, 2009 @ 9:22 pm

woa, i watched this without knowing was new stuff. Me and my friends have so much fun watching your movie reviews, i have watched everyone of them, You should make a review of the Conan movies, the first one is really great and the second is so cheap that its great too (in a “Son of godzilla” way).

I just purchased the trilogy on DVD after hearing the piece of music that plays when Marty’s in the diner writing the letter to Doc. At that moment i had remembered just how awesome and creative the BTTF trilogy is. A great review for a great movie!

  39. dhennick99 November 6, 2009 @ 10:03 pm

Awesome review. BTTF is one of my favorite films. Check out my Halloween costume this year….

Wow, you said you were taking a break and then you release a new AVGN and movie review in two days. you do need to take a break. But keep up the bro, you rock!!! cant wait for the second part!!!

  41. lorinsilver November 6, 2009 @ 11:09 pm

I don’t usually comment, but I had to this time. Back to the Future IS my favorite movie EVER!
I probably would have mentioned the excellent music too, both the theme tune and the song by Huey Lewis. By the way, “The Power of Love” was my first ever single.

I was thinking of my favorite quotes, and they all come from Doc Brown! They are:
    “1.21 Gigawatts!”
    “Great Scott!”
“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need… roads.”

  42. Mr. Arkadin November 6, 2009 @ 11:15 pm

Young Frodo don’t like no Wild Gunman.

  43. Dave1982 November 6, 2009 @ 11:23 pm

James, did you just get to sit it the DeLorean in those pictures, or did you get to drive it?

I happen to run the local DeLorean motor club, so if you ever find yourself in the Boston or Nashua, NH area I can hook you up with some time behind the wheel of one, as long as you know how to drive stick.

  44. buckdudley November 6, 2009 @ 11:24 pm

Great Job James, You just missed the cut by one day though, If you would have put this out on the 5th it would have been 54 years to the date that Doc Brown fell from the toliet then having the vision of the flex capasador that makes time travel possible!

  45. Optics November 6, 2009 @ 11:26 pm

Back to the future is great! The third movie wasn’t as good, but the first two were pure genius.

  46. DawnOfRobby November 6, 2009 @ 11:29 pm

MUST… WATCH… BACK TO THE FUTURE… TRILOGY!!! Good job James. You know when you’re good when you make somebody like me have the hairs go up on the back of my neck and have me suddenly have the urge to watch the movie you’re talking about. I’ll be looking forward to the next review, ofcourse. :]

  47. Endless Mike November 6, 2009 @ 11:45 pm

What a day. Just came home from a friend’s party (it’s 4:41 a.m. in Germany right now), and now the third castlevenia video AND fuckin Back to the future, just amazing, keep up the good work!!

  48. drunkmun November 7, 2009 @ 12:22 am

    GREAT SCOTT!!! :)

  49. DawnOfRobby November 7, 2009 @ 12:33 am

Oh and I know what you mean about the BTTF trilogy genre list. Its a:
    Sci-fi/thriller flick
    Action flick
    Romance flick
    Comedy flick
    High School flick
    Cowboy Western flick
    50’s/classic flick

It makes me kinda dissapointed that movies aren’t made like this anymore. We replaced our imaginations with CG. I’d kill to see another movie based on those non-serious almost comedic sci-fi flicks from the 80’s.

  50. vivaladez November 7, 2009 @ 12:44 am

awsome! love back to future! :D

i think its about its about time James reviews these movies, i remember back in the days when my older brothers introduced me to the back of the future trilogy, i was blown away! i still love these movies to this day =)

OMG you actually did a review.. I Loved the satelite radio show you did on this, but am excited to see you did one of your own reviews on the show.. I wish it was like 10 times longer, but it’s really nice to see that you did this trilogy. omg I forgot that Elijah wood is the kid in BTTF2.

  54. Sirius November 7, 2009 @ 2:37 am

    Awesome awesome awesome!!!
The Back to the Future trilogy is, imo, the greatest trilogy of all time.
Definitely amongst the best movies ever made.

  55. RPGaholic November 7, 2009 @ 2:54 am

To the people who wondered why they didn’t get the gas from the DeLorean already in storage, that’s quite simple. It had already been drained. They didn’t need to replace the gas tank whey they unearthed it in the 50s, and anyone who’s dealt with long-term storage of gasoline will tell you that it gels and damages the filters, fuel lines, gas tank, and many other fuel-related things, which would be amplified when you take into account the very long time it was buried.

Shoot, Doc originally lived in the 1980s, and surely he’d know that people drain their lawnmowers during the winter and other long storages, so to assume he left the gas in there would mean he did something monumentally stupid. As to where THAT gas went to? I’m assuming to power his inventions before he went to steam power, which was a much more available power source in the past.

One other thing, the cartoon, clearly set after the third movie with Jules and Verne, had a time traveling DeLorean despite the one being smashed at the end of the third one. With his train already been upgraded in the future, why would he need to build another DeLorean? Marty’s future was back to being unwritten, Jules and Verne were too young to drive, and Doc and his wife would only need a normal car to get groceries and such.

  56. dude1983 November 7, 2009 @ 3:28 am

James, thank you for talking about Back to the Future! Next to Raiders of the Lost Ark, this is my all-time favorite movie. If I had to pick 3 absolutely PERFECT films that I have seen they would be Raiders of the Lost Ark, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future.

BTW, although the director Robert Zemeckis is currently known for doing performance capture films such as The Polar Express (2004), Beowulf (2007) and A Christmas Carol (2009), he is most famously quoted as saying that the script for Back to the Future is his favorite script that he had worked on. I think of all his films, BTTF is clearly his favorite and most proud work. It’s a classic.

  57. Ninesvnsicks November 7, 2009 @ 4:07 am

Back to the Future is easily one of my favorite movies Michael J. Fox became one of my favorite actor’s when I saw it. I had a chance to sit in and play around the Delorean at Universal Studios when I was a kid, they even had the Train from the 3rd movie setup they were both near the Back to the Future Ride when the ride was brand new. I never pass up a chance to watch this movie.

  58. Gilster85 November 7, 2009 @ 5:59 am

Both my cousin and I love this movie! This is our childhood movie! Our favorite all time movie however is back to the future 2. The depiction of the future in it is what inspired me to be a electronic engineer. When my cousin and I found out the back to the future ride was going to close we went to universal and got on that thing like 20 times. Thats all we did in the theme park that day. By the way, the real name of the twin pine mall is Puente Hills Mall.

  59. fridenpaden November 7, 2009 @ 7:28 am

Best trilogy ever! There are a lot of small details I’ve found but the lone pine mall wasn’t one of them. Thanks!

  60. mistahtom November 7, 2009 @ 7:33 am

I never made the connection between the lone pines and twin pines mall and Marty taking out one of the trees. Sheesh it was right there in front of my face.

Oh yeah and Deloreans are freaking cool. They’re so low to the ground!

  61. StandingCow November 7, 2009 @ 7:58 am

Great great movies. Makes me miss all the awesome TV shows we enjoyed as kids from the 80s and 90s. :(

  62. eafkuor November 7, 2009 @ 8:46 am

my favourite movie of all time, i could watch it 20000 times

  63. Pesmerga November 7, 2009 @ 9:44 am

oh yes!!! I LOVE Back to the future.

here it’s called “Ritorno al Futuro”

  64. crowner November 7, 2009 @ 10:08 am

great as always! :D your are so interesting to listen to

  65. Fracassi November 7, 2009 @ 10:28 am

I swear Robert Zemeckis has an obsession with clocks. I think Romancing the Stone has the exact same opening sequence (well kinda). I think Thomas F. Wilson somehow became the go to guy for filling in as a high school coach in tv shows after these movies came out. And as for Crispin Glover – well I watched the special features on Willard and still have bad dreams.

The box art (posters) for this movie still blow my mind (right up there with Raiders and The Goonies).

  66. Apeshaft November 7, 2009 @ 12:02 pm

    Oh man, this is heavy!

  67. Bandaka November 7, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

I remember hearing Michio Kaku (a respected quantum physicist) talk about, Back the The Future. He said that if you tried to sleep with your mother in the past you “would be in deep doo doo”. But he also said that it wasn’t really his mother but just a version of his mother in a different dimension. Which means Marty never really returned to his original timeline but a different dimension!

  68. Mariusz69 November 7, 2009 @ 1:48 pm

03:28 Biff sounds like Mike Matteii

  69. Rico November 7, 2009 @ 2:49 pm

Wow, a Review about my favorite childhood movie. Thanks James! :)

  70. Moshtank November 7, 2009 @ 3:25 pm

my one cut out whenever you tryed to say your favorite doc quote but i guess its just me ill try again later so good so far keep it up dude!!

  71. McFlyGuy88 November 7, 2009 @ 3:39 pm

I’ve always been baffled everytime I hear someone say they never noticed the whole Twin Pine/Lone Pine detail. I picked it up upon my very 1st viewing. All it takes is one glance at the sign to realize “Wait a minute, the name of the mall was Twin Pines, not Lone Pine…” Then it takes about 5 seconds then it clicks in “Oh! Marty ran over one of the twin pines on the twin pine ranch, so that only left one tree to name the mall after!” Ah well, to each his own I guess. Side ntoe: Tjis review made my day man, BTTF is by far my favourite movie(s) of all time, and your videos are some of the best out there (especially AVGN). Hell, your BTTF review is how I discoverred the awesomeness that is the Angry Video Game Nerd in the 1st place! Cudos to finally doing a full review of the movie. Hope you do a part 2 and 3 review as well.

  72. Biff November 7, 2009 @ 5:14 pm

I guess it goes without saying that I LOVED this review.

    =)

  73. Dafstyle November 7, 2009 @ 5:21 pm

Three of the best movies of all time! I first saw it when i was 9 years old from then till now i’m watching the trig every year at least two times! Thank you so much for this review! My favorite quote:

Doc: Marty, it’s perfect! You’re just not thinking fourth dimensionally!
Marty: Right, right. I have a real problem with that”

  74. Ben_from_G-town November 7, 2009 @ 7:47 pm

Awesome, James is doing the Back to the Future movies! Thanks man. Also, I notice people keep saying how he made these videos even though he is on a break! They were already made ahead of time, you guys!

So the videos will continue to to come out despite his vacation. He planned for the future.

    Fantastic job.

My favorite Time Traveling movie period. I feel so jealous that you guys stood there. I was a former member of the BTTF Hill Valley mod team, that’s making a video game mod, to do the movies justice. It would be amazing to see you review it, in some fashion.

  83. mr.nik November 8, 2009 @ 11:54 am

James you rock man. Back to the Future is my all time favourite movie.
I got so excited seeing you guys went to all the locations, I am so glad to see they still exist after so many years.

I will never get sick of watching that movie. Every single time I watch it, it makes me laugh and I get goosebumps during the final clock tower scene as if I haven’t seen it before. When a friend of mine said he’s never seen it, I thought it was preposterous.

I can’t help but feel upset that we are approaching 2015 soon and that I haven’t seen any announcements from car manufacturers about hover conversions yet.

  84. Bandaka November 8, 2009 @ 11:54 am

What people don’t realize is that there are no paradoxes in the Back to the Future Universe (in reality). If you went back in time and had sex with your own mother, you would not fade away like Marty did. You cannot change history. Marty never changed history; he just went into a parallel universe and changed history there. When Mary returned back to his own time, it wasn’t really his original universe but a new timeline/dimension he travelled to where his father wasn’t such a pussy.
We used to think of time as a linear path. You could go forwards in time only and what happened in the past is set in stone. Albert Einstein then introduced us to the concept of time being like a river, Old Man River that is vast and wide. Now with quantum physics we know that the river of time might have whirlpools, the river might split in two, it might even be able to twist itself into a pretzel (time travel). In Back to the Future, Marty is actually jumping between streams of the river of time and ends up in a completely different stream of time by the end of the movie.

  85. WTF Kid November 8, 2009 @ 2:55 pm

woah! bandaka! i cannot put that much thought into this. i have a sufficient IQ to watch transformers but thats about it lol.

it was a good movie but recently i went back and watched it and just about fell asleep. i personally found it a bit corny but for people who like classics i guess this is a good pick for them. i wouldnt suggest watching this at a party…

TRANSFORMERS!!!!!! BOOM BOOM POW!!!!! (megan fox)

  86. MaxiM November 8, 2009 @ 3:09 pm

Back to the Future – my favorite trilogy of all time. I’ve enjoyed it as a kid and I still enjoy it now as a 27 year old fart. Those movies really are timeless.

  87. DarkLotusEvil November 8, 2009 @ 6:13 pm

This trilogy sound really awesome, I’m gonna check it out for sure. But please, put some spoiler warnings next time :(

  88. RocketeerRaccoon November 9, 2009 @ 7:01 am

Awesome, Back To The Future is one of those movies you never forget, a brilliant trilogy, I wished movies were like this nowhere days.

  89. loomp November 9, 2009 @ 8:05 am

Back to Future Trilogy to me is Film that transcends decades to this day and dare I call these films “timeless” for a Time travel Trilogy ironically.Even though Back to Future 2 is a bit of a mess mainly because Bob Gale had not planed for a sequel and two actors did not return for the Trilogy,it is still a good film if I had to rate the Back to Future Trilogy part 1 would be the best with part 3 being the second best and part 2 somewhere in the middle. Now if I can pick up the re release of Back to Future 1 that has the BTTF the Ride footage since I sadly never got to ride it before the Simpson ride came out,Doc Brown is on a pre ride cartoon on the Simpsons Ride though.

  90. JamesFlurinteno November 9, 2009 @ 9:12 am

im from italy we dident have this movie as far as i know seems like a good trilogy keep it up james XD

  91. sutech November 9, 2009 @ 5:19 pm

I just recently got hold of the whole trilogy so I watched it again. It’s a classic, one of the best movies I ever saw.

    Yay!!! Back To The Future!!!

I couldn’t agree more, the Back To The Future trilogy are without a doubt some of my favourite movies. It’s been 25 years now, and it’s already a timeless classic. …No pun intended. XD

Thank you so much for doing a review on the movie, that was a real treat.

Oh! And yes, I saw in a magazine a few years ago saying that the little kid there was Elijah Wood…xD I still piss my pants laughing about that shameless few-second cameo. Hilarious, ain’t it?

Back to the Future is my most favorite trilogy of all time.

I must have seen each movie dozens of times throughout my life.

I don’t think there is ever going to be anything quite like Back to the Future made ever again.

Oh and I must say I never realized until you pointed it out that the kid was Elijah Wood.

Don’t forget the cartoon series– it was pretty good, and had Christopher Lloyd and Bill Nye The Science Guy in it!

Funny, just the other day I was wondering how come James hasn’t done a BTTF review yet? Heh heh, well done. This is my favourite movie of all time. I’m jealous that you got to visit some of the locations where they shot the film.

    Hi James,

I’m a Bucks County, PA resident who finally made my Back to the Future dreams come true last year. I would love it if you would check out my tour of all the shooting locations at:

BTTF was the worst NES game of alllllll time simply because I had the highest expectations. Ruined my childhood.

My mom’s friend’s husband restores DeLoreans. He has a few of them at his house, including one of the movie prop ones with all the custom parts on it as well as in it (even a smoke machine thing). It’s pretty incredible.

As always, great reviews. B.T.T.F. was an enjoyable part of my childhood, despite the odd plot holes in exist in the second film. Even today it still holds up to the test of time.

The short lived animated series was OK as well, but it never got the attention it deserved in production and was unable to be educational and entertaining at the same time.

Its a pitty that just about very video game (NES and Genesis) I played based on the franchise was just so incredibly horrible and a few other impolite phrases.
