While I love the trilogy, the only thing that annoyed me about this film, was they couldn’t get the original jennifer. I forget the reason why, apparently she wasn’t available or something.
The new jennifer imo was a terrible actor (thank god she played such a small part), and not nearly as hot as the original.
This was my favorite of the BTTF Trilogy. The 3-D Jaws. The flying cars. MJ in the 80s cafe. Zemeckis’ vision of the future has always been one of my favorites, not to mention one of the most plausible at the time. Great acting, great story, great visuals. These truly are the most perfect three movies in my opinion.
@StandingCow The first girl who played Jennifer (Claudia Wells) had to back out because her mother got cancer. But what I think is amazing is that since they had to replace her with Elisabeth Shue they re-shot the end sequence from the first movie with her for the 2nd movie’s opener.. ZOMG!!!! WHY DID HE SAY NOTHING ABOUT HOW COOL THE HOVERBOARDS WERE!!! Seriously though, they were my favorite aspect of this movie. Great Review James can’t wait for the third installment.
The one thing that really bugged me about Part 2 is the future sequences carry almost no weight. The first film went to the past and offered viewers nostalgia and wonder. Even though I’m too young to remember 1955, seeing old cars and hearing old songs meant something. By contrast, a future version of a town that’s not real in the first place wasn’t very exciting. If anything, it was just a string of gags.
And then there’s their mission, which has absolutely zero urgency. In the original film, Marty is trapped in the past and almost gets himself erased. In the future, he’s in almost no danger at all.
Once the almanac appears and things get screwed up in 1955/85, the movie takes off. But there’s a long stretch of time at the beginning where nothing of consequence occurs and that’s a shame.
I actually thought that the second movie was a bit cheesy.. especially the scene where marty meets griff and after punching him, he turns around like a cheap toy robot or something. Also, the hoverboards of the evil gang were a little bit too much. All in all, its a good movie, but i liked the first one much more.. it was kinda ..more realistic in a way that for example in part 2 there would have never been lybian terrorists. I think thats because they tried to write the script more for the kids… However, when I saw this movie as a kid, i really believed that this could be a plausible future. It was great
Knux, that was a time-related matter. Marty is in existential danger again where time is still about how we can fear things will be, then personally given to character on how he feared being a loser, which was a problem given to his situation related to his father’s same problem in the past. There is no Marty’s son from 2015 going back to 1985 to save his father, he actually just learn from a whole century moral about the bright decisions we just make. 2009 is such about being a nerd on details these days lol, James missed out the whole point before Doc’s departure
To think, Zemeckis gone crazy after Contact (1997), mind-blowing debate on science vs. faith and reason to live in Cast Away, what a sad depressive man.
Part 3 ruled over previous two actually, the calm being never boring or lacking excitement (still used theme in Zemeckis following movies), a perfectly shown perspective on the present modern craze on the 20th century. Who said the human specy would live sane by the way it has got, since the future is actually far from what was imagined by the 60’s people.
yeah- i almost like the sequel better. its surprisingly consistent and theres just a lot of little things that made me smile. more often than the first.
ah, my favorite movie trilogy of all time,
seriously – if i happen to find BTF in tv, when jumping through channels, i need to watch it to the end,
i just can’t not watch it, the same goes for my sister
it is the only franchise in the world to have such a power
I’m shocked that James didn’t mention the fact that Crispin Glover wasn’t actually in this movie.
They just used old, unused footage, and hired a look-a-like. That’s why in the future, he’s floating upside down. Crispin actually sued and won over all this.
Still, to this day, part 2 is easily the greatest of the series. You get so much. The future, alternate 1985, 1955, all types of great ish.

scrublife.wordpress.com – oh, we’ve got it all. Man Movie Encyclopedia, and more Top 5 lists than you can shake a stick at. Well, not a big stick, mind you.
And, I must say something here. Being a French-Canadian, when I was young I used to watch my movies dubbed in French. As I grew older I also moved on to watching my movies in English, as I now hate dubs, no matter the language. If I don’t understand the language, I will watch the movie with subtitles.
There is one single exception to this. And that is BttF. The BttF dub in French is, imo, SUPERIOR to the English original version. The translated jokes, the intelligence and cleverness put into the lines is pure genius and even funnier than in English. They came up with a masterpiece dub.
Sirius -> As a French viewer who saw the movie both in french and english several times each, I can only agree that BTTF has one of the best dubs ever, and apart from it, there are not much movies that you’d better watch in the original version.
Now concerning the jokes, I agree too, certain jokes works better in the french dub than in the original.
Now for the overall feeling, I think both version are excellent, but I still prefer watch the original version in the end (because I like having Lloyd’s or Wilson’s real voices, even if the french dubs are hilarious too).
But anyway, I agree with James Rolfe, one of the best movie sequels of all time, easily.
I love BttF2, it blew my mind when I was younger how they set up everything around the events of the first movie, and the attention to detail connecting the two films.
I always thought it was crazy how the widescreen TV on the wall in the scene of the Japanese boss berating McFly looks so real and modern. How did they know it was going to look like that?! Is there other technology in it that came true?
Yeah, watched all the movies yesterday and I got to laugh when I saw the 2015. It was more like 2115^^ But I was amazed abaout the lcd, that was a pretty good guess by the writers. And I also didn’t like the chicken thing, by the way. Marty’s such a nice guy, always kind and friendly and then a tiny insult can change him into Michael Corleone?? But still awesome movies and a awesome review!!
Has anyone ever heard of Confused Matthew. He’s a movie critic who has a web site (www.confusedmatthew.com) He has a pretty good (and constantly growing) collection of movie reviews, both new and old movies. He did a review of BTTF 2 a while back. It’s a negative review but he does bring up some good and interesting points.
Ah more delicious cinemassacre content.

Other than that, awesome movies.
Anyone else get one of those shiney replica BTTF 2 baseball caps at the Universal Studios gift shop back in the day? I wish I still had it.

StandingCow tells the truth.
Anyway, thank you again James!! Awesome review.
my god, Biff is such an asshole at the end, making little kids cry….=’(
i’ve always want one of those automatic shoes, those are awesome!!! great review.

There he is Doc! Let’s land on him, we’ll cripple his car!
Marty, he’s in a ‘46 Ford, we’re in a DeLorean. He’d rip through us like we were tin foil.
Sorry, but very meh

@SGFREAK37 Yea, I had heard they reshot the ending. Thanks for the link, that was pretty cool to see it side by side.
Makes me dislike the new jennifer that much more, lol.
…. What happens to us in the future? Do we become assholes or something?” – is brilliant !

thank you
I agree!! Although I don’t think I ever had a problem with the ‘being called a chicken’ part of the movie.
Knux, that was a time-related matter. Part 2 was decent. Part 3 sucks.

Keep up the awesome work james!

I love that clip at the end with Biff.
He’s such a prick, I love it! XD
I love the BTTF Trilogy !
wow, these videos are coming so fast now. great! your the best james!!!
Biff is such an asshole!
Loved the stinger at the end with Biff throwing the football. That cracks me up every time I watch these movies.

Now it’s almost 2010 and still no hoverboards
Movies based in the future always lie to us. Remember Demolitian Man?! same thing.
Great Scott!!
The second one is my favorite in the trilogy.

“it is the only franchise in the world to have such a power”
so untrue.
For me the hoverboards made this my favorite of all three movies.

orrrrrrr out-side haahahahaah
did anyone notice that at 2:44, the date is marked at November 12. The date of this review is november 12
I love BttF2, it blew my mind when I was younger how they set up everything around the events of the first movie, and the attention to detail connecting the two films.
Not to be a nerd but (well if I can’t here than when can I) the “assholes” line is kind of really from the first movie. It is great though.
If I had to pick a Marty line from this one I’d say…
“You’re forgetting one thing Biff…WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?”
Great review! You like Part 1 better than Part 2, though?
I was always the other way around.
I never noticed Doc Brown stopping to think about that question. That’s great!
I always thought it was crazy how the widescreen TV on the wall in the scene of the Japanese boss berating McFly looks so real and modern. How did they know it was going to look like that?! Is there other technology in it that came true?
