The History of Super Mecha Death Christ

In regards to many of your comments, this video was made BEFORE the battle with Donkey Kong Jesus happened. Yes, this is a very old project that’s been on hiatus for a year. The voice over track was laid down, but the all animation wasn’t finished until now.
When the brawl happened and Doug talked to me about using SMDC, I was thinking, “Fuck, I gotta hurry up and finish this History video.” I did my best. I coudn’t get it done in time, and I didn’t feel like adding the whole section. Besides, who knows if it’s the last SMDC appearance, it could go on forever.
But this animation/photoshopping stuff is extremely time-consuming, so for those of you who hate this kind of humorous animation style, then don’t worry because you won’t see this too often. It’s just one side of my personality and humor, and if you don’t like it, there’s an AVGN video every 2 weeks.

I loved it! SMDC is by far my most favorite of AVGN’s recurring cast members. And this rather detailed history further proves that SMDC is on a level of bad-ass that is beyond comparison.
Only one thing I would like to point out, however. And please, I ask for mercy from the rest of you and from Mr. Rolfe himself as I tried to move on even after noticing this one minuscule and basically irrelevant error. But that just isn’t me and being former military it is something that I have to correct.
Between 3:07 and 3:09 it is mentioned that the SMDC project is scrapped in favor of the ‘Nighthawk’ project. The narrator informs us that the final product of said project is the “F-177 Nighthawk” when it is in fact the ‘F-117 Nighthawk’.
That’s it, all I wanted to point out. So, ream me a new one, by all means. But I still maintain that this was an awesome production and I enjoyed it thoroughly. SMDC 4 Life.

Anyway, the video has an interesting and nicely thought-out story. I only saw the SMB3 review and the Battle between AVGN and NC, so I didn’t know this about Super Mecha Death Christ in Dorothy Goes To Hell. I only saw it on a trailer. I thought he appeared to rescue Dorothy.
Why didn’t James talk about the battle between AVGN, NC and pretty much everyone else from his site? SMDC appeared there fighting NC’s Cloverfield monster.
BTW, how does the Bum calls SMDC? Super Mecha Kablooie Jesus? LOL
I’m an NC fan. I don’t like the idea of him getting possessed at the end of the “first final battle”. Only my opinion anyway. I find it funny he’s making an impression of Palpatine in Episode III.

Thank you for this riveting documentary. It was quite informative and should definitely be played in all University classes concerning the study of SMDC. Particularly all Super Mecha Death Christ 101 classes. You may want to seriously consider contacting a good distributor. I would recommend Take the Money and Run Co. They are just right for this sort of job.
This animation was awesome. I’ve been an Animator on several games so far. Mostly 3D but I’ve been involved in ones with unique styles like South Park-ish. I’m just saying the nature of this character is so twisted that the Animation has to match. I couldn’t stop laughing..
I’m writing just cause your giving people a heads up on not worrying about this happening often?…dude this IS a huge part of your set-up. If you ever have time to incorporate it, don’t hesitate please. You should instead be saying “Whoever isn’t a fan of it, I love you but that’s how I roll” Even the best animation falls flat without good plots.

True, the newer ones have been slightly lacking, but they aren’t “Soooo baaaad”. He is incredibly busy trying to make them, he probably has to make a ton of videos in a certain amount of time. Just by watching them, you can tell he’s tired and definitely under a lot of pressure. It’s not laziness, it’s just that he has no time to put his heart and soul into it anymore, and I’m sure he’s pretty burned out from it anyway. Perhaps we should just let him do his thing instead of doing what everyone’s doing, saying “I love it give me more” and/or “You lazy fuck! Your new stuff is shit for the birds!”

1.) James, I love your work. You are very talented and entertaining. You are obviously good at what you do, and I will most likely continue my support of your work.
2.) I have not had any complaints about you or your work, or even your affiliates like Doug or the others. So you and your fans should not see the following as some kind of baseless rant or spam. And..
3.) This is directed at James and Cinemassacre. While the fans may read this and undoubtedly respond, I’m talking to you as a fan.
This and the series of Jesus jokes behind it, is offensive. I do not intend to condescend to you about entertainment, as you know what you’re doing, but part of having a wide audience is not offending people in said audience.
If one is atheist or agnostic, or simply “not religious” that is perfectly fine. We can all believe what we want, or choose not to believe in anything at all. However, this is simply mocking and insulting to people who do believe it.
I would go as far as to compare this to sexism or racism. You may ask yourself “How is this anything like racism?” Well mocking Jesus or being disrespectful of a figure that many view to be God, is intentionally poking fun at it. There’s no way to be absolved of the obvious intent here. So that being said, it’s in the same field as someone donning black face. This is honestly a step away from that. Or depicting someone of Asian descent speaking in a heavy accent and bowing every ten seconds.
I read a lot of the other comments and a lot of your fans are not unbiased fans who simply enjoy your work. A lot of people here speak as fanboys or fangirls who are literally attacking the other members who speak up about how offensive this is.
Yes. It was obviously done as a joke. Yes, you put time and energy into your work. But the same could be said about a video you could do with you beating a woman and telling her to take her shoes off and cook you a dinner in your kitchen.
You’ve shown that you can make videos that are unoffensive and attract many. So I’m not requesting something absurd or unfounded. I’m not asking you to not curse or use foul language or act like a boy scout. But religion is a touchy subject across the board, it’s something that people have died over. Started wars over. And yet it’s being handled here in a very callow manner.
I’ve watched many of Cinemassacre videos and those of thatguywiththeglasses, and it seems that many of you have a very apathetic disposition towards religion. I’m unaware of the truest beliefs that you and your partners hold, but giving your fans and the religion itself more respect could keep a large and wide audience.

Also, when someone is offended, being told to “lighten up” or get a sense of humor is very immature and silly. People believe different things, and some people hold strong to their beliefs, it is their right to find something offensive or delightful. And as a community of fans, the appropriate thing to do is to try to see other people’s view, not belittle them or attack them personally because they disagree with you.
This is not a hindrance of free speech or self expression, it is a plea of understanding and everyone to sympathize.

Being atheist and not making fun of “god hogs” like yourself and religion in general makes me feel like I’m not doing my part to be a good atheist. It’s an affront to my beliefs to stand idley by and let you and your ilk poison the reasonable and intelligent people with your beliefs. You say that’s like racism because it singles out a certain group of people, but I’d equate it to lawmakers making laws to stop harmful people like killers and thieves.

Perhaps that’s true. And that’s you opinion. But something is missing from the AVGN series in specific, and fans are noticing. In my opinion, it’s that they are more like quick videos now, not full, in-depth critiques that when it comes down to it, originally made it funny in the first place. The problem is, he’s forced to do quick little AVGN videos, because he’s pressured for time to make another AVGN video, so it’s an ongoing unrelenting loop of work that has to be done. He can’t really just go at his own pace anymore, he has to make quick videos to continuously feed his fans.

Do we not teach kids ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never harm me?’. When we’re adults, does that change to ‘Names will make me scream blue murder?’
Whilst I would never condone racism or direct attacks on people’s views, it seems that you can barely say anything without someone looking to take offense. We’re all different, we all have different viewpoints. What is innocuous to one person is offensive to another and whilst we take care to minimise it, the fact is, in all walks of life, we will occasionally, see and hear things said we don’t necessarily agree with. They’ve not tried to offend anyone, just some people don’t agree with it. So just don’t watch/read the film/book/etc again if you don’t like it!
E.g. As an atheist, should I take offense at this video for acknowledging the figures of Christ and Satan and hence Christianity? Should I argue that by giving Christ an armoury, the imagery is effectively ‘empowering’ Christ thus undermining atheist beliefs?
Or should I believe that that’s just reading too much into it and missing the point that James is just having a bit of fun and hasn’t set out to offend anyone and leave it at that?

I’d like to think that most religious people are not so thin-skinned that they couldn’t see the humor in SMDC2K, even if they don’t necessarily agree.
If they are, they probably shouldn’t be watching someone as generally offensive as The Nerd–I still maintain that nothing is more offensive (or awesome) than “How in the holy goddamn mother-shit-fucking Christ of cunt fuck am I supposed to attack the enemy when the fucking floor is falling down?”.
I try to work that phrase into casual conversation as much as possible.
